Picked up my copy yesterday, (or tomorrow as my three-year-old grandson would say, as he hasn't quite got the hang of days and times yet) from Brian's newsagents by Seaford station. Morfa Bank sidings is a very atmospheric scene with authentic looking buildings.

Hywel Thomas' Morfa Bank Sidings article is worthy of comparison with Chris Pendlenton at his best - I had not expected to enjoy reading about 1970s grot!

I am, however, mystified as to how descriptions of the Dean Clough chimney and Ian Worthington's model as hexagonal slipped through the editorial process.

My subscription copy arrived this morning with troubling advice for anyone with younger offspring.

Probably for the best.

After all, how many toddlers have learnt how to build etched brass kits?

Can't start them on soldering too soon....

Lesson #1 - make sure you hold the correct end of the soldering iron ... .

Quite a few live in a vacuum, apparently.  Should help prevent tarnishing.

Maybe no tarnishing but breathing might be a bit rough....but then you can’t have everything.

Cheers,

What a superb issue!

Morfa Bank is just sublime and a very good read. I was much taken with the 'Welsh-Italian' cafe!

Selling Bara brith made with olive oil perhaps?  :jester:

Mum used to make it*, but we called it "cold tea cake".

* But NOT with olive oil, you understand...

The article on lever frame locking, I found to be enlightening, I didn't know that the block instruments  electronically interlocked the mechanical interlocking. I look forward to the 2nd part to further edjumacate me in the dark art.

Indeed, there are college courses for that. This photo allegedly originated in advertising for one.

sniff Who's having a bacon sandwich?

One thing that has been previously mentioned about the photo is that there's probably nothing you could solder, with that size of iron, on that side of the board...

Would dearly love to join in the conversations but yet again I must at the back of the queue as my surname starts with an F  I have still not received my copy yet?

I would suspect a postcode rather than a surname lottery.
