I do admire those who build their own track

:good:

I don’t even like wiring up RTR track

Cheers Chris, What l like about making my own track is that its very relaxing and satisfying, if you have good gauges and lots of time on your hands its great...

Hi,

Enjoying watching this come together.

Can I ask the dimensions of your scenic area/sector plate?

regards,

James

Hi James, the total area of Moss Lane is 10' x 18" scenic, and the cassettes are 36" which clip onto both ends...enough for a loco + two wagons..

Well finally finished the trackwork on 'Moss Lane' (Please ignore the piece of Peco track) one cassette will sit inside the cupboard, and the other end will hang over the end, l will only need one cassette as only one movement at a time, there will be three bridges over the diorama, one in the middle and one at each end hiding the fiddle yards, that's the theory anyhow... Sorry forgot the track to the bay platform...

  • georgeT changed the title to Moss Lane (7mm Micro-Layout)

Most impressed George. It looks very similar to what I had in mind (my unpopulated board is 2m x 0.5m).

How are you going to control/operate the points?

I'll also be very interested in your cassette and how it 'joins' with the main line.

Richard

Hi James, Craig & Richard, Thanks for the interest shown, the layout was going to be a

dio-rama type but it has grown a bit bigger (By the day), so it is now become a Micro-layout? it was originally  meant to be for both eras steam/diesel locomotives, but as my love for steam is dwindling a bit, l think it will be for diesels only, green up to today, so anything can run on 'Moss Lane, (as long as it has a diesel engine ?? Hahahahaha...

Hi Richard, The points will be operated by steel rods push/pull, the cassettes will be made of aluminium angle strips on a plywood base...

Good morning George I've been watching this new master piece develop from a far whilst moving from the wilds of Wales to the some what flatter geography here in the Cheshire. Have to admire your skilled track work looking very good.

Once I've completed in house decorating tasks the next shed project will start to develop for the construction of the 0 gauge layout. There is an old garage to demolish and some groundwork to be completed but hopefully things will start to take shape later this year. You will of course be most welcome when we are allowed to socialise in person.

Will follow Moss Lane with interest in the meantime .

Hello Martin, So nice to hear from you again and thank you for the kind words, glad you have finally made the move to Cheshire, hopefully now you can settle down now, and soon make a start on your O gauge project, with Moss Lane all l really wanted was a large test track to run the kit built stock on, but things started to get bigger, so now its a Micro-layout and something l can play with around a station environment, l also have added a 4"x5' extra piece of baseboard along the back of the station to entertain a royal mail parcels depot/warehouse ?, we will see what happens next, take care buddy...

Tremendous work George.

You say you find all that lovely track building RELAXING as for me with track if I can't build it better I buy RTR as my patience is poor.  Probably because my skill level with track is low and I'm not getting any younger so I need to get on with things so I can enjoy the running.

Looking forward to following your build as a Diorama / micro model is the way to go for me too.

Best

Hello Barnaby thanks for dropping in and the kind words, the main reason l went for track making is l think it looks better and more realistic, plus its easier to ballast as you don't have the Peco web to worry about, l really wanted to build something to see how my kit built locos were running, but then l thought why not make it more interesting to operate, l have tried small BLTs before but you get two O gauge coaches together and you soon realise you don't have the room, so l now have small cassettes at each end only big enough for loco and a couple of wagons, but they are not trapped like with other layouts l have built, so you can run any which way you like and have some fun just playing trains, take care and stay safe buddy...
