Going Spare
Unless Hornby have changed the specification, Service Sheets 403B (Mk1 coach) and 422C (Peckett W4) show the coupling assembly (head, hook and pocket) as being the standard NEM X9289. RMweb Gold ikcdab Posted March 10, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2021 I have found that the Hornby close couplers are far better. It's Hornby R8220. They hold the stock more tightly and I have found that they virtually eliminate derailments when propelling. I use these for all inter-coach connections, retaining the hook and bar couplings at each end of the rake.
60159
David, if you want some Hornby couplings of the type ex Mk1, I'll send you some, no charge. I've replaced all my Hornby couplings with Bachmann couplings. The Bachmann long straight cat no 36-030 gives the same gap between vehicles as the Hornby but the hook is shorter so less play. I use the Bachmann short straight cat no 36-061 which sets the bar just marginally ahead of the buffers, is much neater and is OK on second radius.
