Scale scenes Canal Wharf boxfile

A few weeks ago I felt a little low on inspiration and enthusiasm. To try and counter this I have tried a little retail therapy in the form of the Scale Scenes canal wharf box file. I have a Ruston D48 that will provide the motive power so costs have been kept down. I also don't intend this to end up in a box file but on a small plank instead.

So here is where I am with this model. It's not finished but it has been an enjoyable build.

That looks really good.

I have just downloaded one their freebies to build and if it all goes well I'm planning on purchasing the canal wharf kit too.

My plan is similar to yours in not using a box file, but a plank or small board.

Will be watching with interest.

Good job.  I am a huge fan of Scalescenes.  Excellent design and beautiful rendering.  I have started the same model, but in 7mm:

Surprise surprise, it looks the same.  I did build some of the elements in plastic, like the water tower and some doors.  I scratchbuilt the windows.  The left most downspouts are brass tube.

I also made the barge:

I really need to have a think about the base.  I will build it using ply and Skytrex have some good looking resin products.

I have the Dapol Terrier as motive power for now.  Dapol recently announced the LSWR B4 0-4-0T so that will be perfect.

I have commented before that I was building one of these to take into the care home where my Dad lived once Lockdown was over. I saw it as something simple to transport and able to be set up on a table in the lounge area. I based it on three box files: one for the scenic element, a sector plate to the right and a traverser to the left. I have all the trackwork complete, as is the barge, and I have started the first building. The plan was to use my Pecketts and Terriers.

But then, my Dad passed away in January and to be honest I put it aside having lost heart, probably never to be completed.

Seeing the wonderful building shown, this thread has now given me belief that, in time, I will complete it. It is a scene that can be made to have so much atmosphere.

Things seem to have grown somewhat with this and I now have a little shunting layout I never expected, just how did that happen????

Are they all Scale scenes kits?

Yes, but most have some form of modification even if it is just mirrored printing. The only non modified one is the original canal wharf box file bit (well it’s not been modified yet!)

I've been busy between painting and carpet laying. The warehouse to the rear is now getting very close to completion. This is a modified low relief warehouse. I've added an extra floor, doubled the size of the pilar on the right and added in a much larger pilar on the left containing stairs. Looking carefully you can just see the top of a gapping hole on the ground floor. This is to allow the traverser to exit via the building.

It's amazing how the layout has grown from just having the canal wharf box file kit.
