Removing the body from a Bachmann Class 24/1 ?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Can anyone  tell me how to remove the body from a Bachmann Class 24/1 D5135. I checked Bromsgrove Models website ( http://www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/bachmann25dccinstr.htm ) - before buying a loco which tells me to undo 4 screws then just 'pop it off'. The Bachmann leaflet that came with the loco shows there are now 6 screws (an extra one at each end under the cab) and says once all six have been removed just turn it the right way up and lift the body off. I have tried this but it still wont come off. The chassis flexes at each end and in the middle and I am scared that I will break something if I force it - but something almost about the centre of each bogie holds it fast. Am I missing something? Are there more hidden fixings. Any advice would be much appreciated. )Bachmann Class 24 Body removal.pdf

Just tried mine, removed the six screws and the body comes off.

You're not undoing the screws on the bottom of the bogies by any chance? The inner four screws are buried deep down through the bogies.

This caught me out first time as well.

You need the 2 end ones under the couplings and theres 4 that you need to access through the bogies. Hold it up to the light and youll see the screwheads thru the bogies.

Dont yank the body off theres wires connecting the body and the chassis for the headcode lights

Thanks Giz you were spot on.

I had undone the 4 screws at the end of the bogies which I now see secured the black body metal to the chassis. I didn't see the other four!

Lesson 1: work in a better light. Lesson 2: study the diagrams better.

Next problem I have is that one of the black wires is detached from the head code light. I don't think I did that as I never got that far so don't know if it was designed like that ie with just 3 attached and one not connected, or should it have all 4 like the other end? It will be a pain to re-solder though.
