Couple more.

Hornby 31174 with the factory weathering partially removed. No longer looks like someone has wiped a melted Chocolate bar down the side.

That’s a big improvement on the Hornby weathering. Did you use thinners to remove the factory weathering?

Hello Max Legroom

Thank you.

Started of using a cotton bud dipped in IPA, although the Beer wasn't that effective so switched to Enamel thinners instead working gently. I agree about the Hornby weathering, to me it just looks like someone's partially melted a Chocolate bar and wiped it down the side!

Finally getting round to doing more on the modified Lima PTA wagons. I originally made a mistake and did one of them as a PXA forgetting that those have parralell sides unlike the PTA which taper inwards at the bottom. Well my little boy decided he would like to have two like that! So there is two ARC PTA, and two PXA. I also dug out my Yeoman PTA for him as well giving him a mixed Rake of nine. 4 ARC, 2 Later Yeoman Grey and 3 in the earlier plain white with Blue Yeoman.

Just need  a set of Transfers for the white Yeoman branding on a blue background.  Couldn't get any 1.5x2mm plastistruct forgetting top edge so settled on 2mm (need to get more as I ran out) which I used for the end Ribs. 1 of the ARC PTA is fitted with a pair of Hornby Y27 Bogies,  the other a pair of Cast White metal Y27 Disc Brake Bogies modified. There close enough to the British Steel Axle Motion Bogies for a 7 year old to be happy. The 2 PXA will be fitted with Schilerien Bogies. When I can get some. For the Yeoman PTA I only have 3 pairs (the last 3 pairs of ex Appleby bogies left Cheers John at CCT fir those) of Axle Motion Bogies so I will have to have a look at what to do with those.

More pics to follow

New phone ,better Camera if the moron behind it can figure out how it works! Some pics of each wagon. Ideally I would like to cut the lower section of the bodies but until I get enough Bogies for the Moment I will paint them black on the Yeoman ones and Black with ARC Mid Grey Headstock on THE ARC ones.

The 4 ARC ones have the 2mm capping fitted. So look Taller. This was before I removed the Maskol on the two branded ones.

This was a bit harder than I thought as it was difficult to see exactly where it was going some of it came off easy some had to be scraped off causing some scratches in the paint and branding. Should be able to touch these up and I rekon with a bit of weathering they should look ok.

Had a go  at fading and distressing the paintwork on an older Heljan 47 Model that started life off as 47212 in RF Petroleum. They were supplied with a voucher for a replacement body due to paint error which was excellent customer service from them I stripped off the original branding and put some standard Fox Speeding Transfers on. Already had the nameplates for it from an even older Hornby 47 my father painted 30 plus years ago. So 47317 Wilsden Yard it is. Silver window surrounds faded yellow replacement Cab door and faded the Transfers using thinned down Rail match Faded Railfreight Red with a little white in it to make the pinkish tint. Not to sure how I feel about this one because  as hard as I tried I couldn't smooth out the Micro Scratches from the soft bristle burnishing brush I used.  Normally padded Nail file & polishers do the trick but not this time.

So Dazzled with its beauty was I that it immediately struck me that I had made a rather silly error on my Lima upgrades. The 2mm top edge. Oh they are way to tall now. Think I'm going to have to strip the strips off! I decided to repint the ARC branding (with a not so steady hand!) With Railmatch ARC Mid grey. They look way better for it. Also started marking out the Headstock, Bogies Bolster positions and underframe support brackets. Between the Grey sections it will be painted Matt Black. At least for the time being.

Had to be done  removed the capping strips I fitted. Never was happy with them. Looking better now. Though they will never be to the standard of Guy lyneux's incredible Scratchbuilt models or these stunning production models. My little man will be happy.

Thanks for the encouragement all.

Battery arrived for my PTA. Thank you again McC and Accurascale for this. But I'll be flipped upside down if I can get the thing to work.  Looks like its all making contact when the battery is fully clipped in. I did read on the PTA  thread about tweaking the contacts to make sure it's applying enough pressure and all feels good.  Also call me stoopid but which ways on and off. LOL as I honestly don't know with it not turning on.  Really Is a lovely wagon though and I will definitely have to get me a Rake.

Yeoman PTA al now have the lower section of body painted matt black. Small amount of touching up needed as I seem to be struggling to hold the paintbrush still these days.

Original Livery. The Plastic had slightly yellowed on this one so I used an off White for the ends and gave it a light coat of weathering.

Well SWMBO said I would be silly not to. So I did. Found these little beauts on Ebay.  Paid a fair price for them I think. But Definitely worth it.

Gonna keep an eye out now for some more. With a bit of luck. Although buying individually I will obvoiusly end up paying more it gives me a chance to mix n match. Such lovely models these.

Made a start on a Colas 37 for me littleman. Everything I do is hand painted so there will be some touching up to do. Using Hambrol paints closet match. Satin Black for the Roof, Bonnet tops and upper Bodysides. didnt stir it enough though as its very Glossy.  Humbrol matt Orange And Matt lemon yellow.

Pretty pleased so far but will go do the Roof again and touch up where needed. I will do separate Handrails and Lamp Irons on the nose for him as then it will match his  37025. This one will be 37254 Cardiff Canton.

While waiting for for parts for current and further projects I pulled these out to see what can be done weathering wise.  I have a real Hankering for some scruffy Oba's after seeing EWS60065's  excellent attempt.

Fogot I did this Redland OAA conversion. Lost the bottle to do the side cutouts for the ratchet strap tensioners.  Must be 17 years ago I did this back when EWS would tag anywhere between 3 - 20 mixed Wooden and cage door OAA/OBA on the end of some Stone Trains heading for Acton Yard.  End stanchions are maybe a tad overscale but probably used what I had to Hand.

So I've made a start on Either Distressing or Tarting up (whatever your poison) my two Bachmann OBA Wagons in EWS. Just looked to nice and clean. Found just one photo of each so could only do one side.

The first OBA 110636 looks to have Faded Railfreight Red paint on the near end.

OBA_110678

And my Bachmann Model of 10678. I Used a Gloss Maroon Red with a little Matt White to get as close as possible paint match to the photo. Although that looks to have been taken in some very bright sun !

20211011_202854.jpg

and how it looked originally and still does on the other side

Bachmann OBA 110678.jpg

And the second OBA 110636 Has had some patch painting done and a couple of planks replaced

110636 OBA 110406

And my Bachmann Model of 110636. for this again I used the Humbrol 20 Crimson Gloss with a little white mixed in to change the panel colours, Railmatch EWS Gold for the one remaining plank and a Humbrol 28 Matt Grey with a little Humbrol 34 Matt Tan mixed in for the new Planks.  Both have had the insides coated in a thinned down Humbrol Matt 173 as a base for the weathering.

20211011_202834.jpg

And how it started

Bachmann OBA 110636.jpg

Pretty happy so far . The will be finished with a coat of Matt Varnish once the weathering has been finished.

Done a bit more fading on the S&T OBA. Think I need another coat over the EWS (Humbrol Gloss Red) though.

With work and illness getting in the way I've only managed to do a little bit of Modelling. The Bachmann PNA wagons I really like although I only had two of them x1 5 Rib & x1 7 Rib. Purchased another 7 Rib one recently from AC Models in Eastleigh. Lovely little shop this with very friendly staff. This one has factory weathering and it was a good price to. Wagons does need a little bit of weathering just on the inside as it's left too clean so while at it done all 3 of these. Found a couple of pics so got some serious work to do to get them to how would like. Still good start. Speaking of starts I dug out my S Kits Resin MHA Body (which I've had for more years than I can remember!) And gave the inside a coat  of Railmatch Acrylic rust on the inside and Railmatch EWS Maroon for the outside. Turns out its a bit Banana shape!  Still once painted I will glue it down held tight with elastic bands for a couple of days to help keep level.  The Chassis is a Hornby superdetailed one from the 1st release with the incorrect Body which b rolled of my shelf and blew to pieces. Started fixing it. The original body although incorrect with a little filing of the top edge to Bevell it makes a good representation of the prototype batch of MHA conversions. So I'm doing it In rusted R/F Coal sides with yellow ends. I'll have to get a chassis now though!

Today I dug out my old Lima  60016 in EWS. I sorted doing the internal detail it on this just before Hornby announced they were doing theirs so it's been a while! After modifying the chassis I dropped it cracking the Chassis and knocking off the details and it's been sitting there feeling sorry for itself since. After seeing g a couple if the real things recently it's spurred me on to finally do something with it. Added the arm rests on the  ab I terrors but Still need to make the centre consoles for the phones Still needs weathering though.
