CUTLER2579
31 466 was repainted into EWS colours for the Toton TMD open day in May 1998 and soon became possibly the only one of the class to be in traffic running in the EWS colours until being preserved in February 2001.In preservation it seemed to carry this livery until in 2014 it was purchased and returned to traffic in "Trainload" livery. I am interested tto read that after such a length of time in preservation the Locomotive should be purchased back into the main railway network and also, did it ever return to EWS Livery for open days etc.
73101 The Royal Alex
I think you might be getting 31466 confused with another member of the class - it was the only member of the class in EWS livery (apart from one used for paint tests which got half way there), and has remained so ever since, and has recently been repainted at the Dean Forest Railway. CUTLER2579
I know 31466 was at the Dean Forest Railway during its time in preservation, however my knowledge of Diesels is limited as I am really an ECML Kettle man.
73101 The Royal Alex
Has it left preservation?
CUTLER2579
Yes ,apparently in 2014 it was purchased by Trainload which I found very strange.

black and decker boy
IIRC 31255 was painted into EWS maroon & gold whilst in preservation but was later bought by HNRC for possible mainline use though that never materialised and has been sold back into preservation again at the MNR. It is still in EWS colours I think.

Toton had just opened a new paint facility, and various stored engines were tested including 31255 and 37137 which was very close to being preserved, but afterwards wasn't in as great condition thanks to paint being liberally applied everywhere and anywhere, and subsequently went for scrap
Will Crompton
While browsing Flickr photos of diesel traction while I should really be doing something constructive I came across the following picture of 31466 in EWS livery at Bescot in November 1998. https://www.flickr.com/photos/44483738@N05/5591347783/in/pool-1960304@N22/
