Sandhole
I'll post some old photos on here. I apologise for the quality, I don't have a scanner yet. I posted these because they are unique in some cases. The train of car carriers at York, the double headed Warships on the Cornish Riv and the Thompson 6wheeled brake van at Liverpool St. The Deltic at York and the shots of Kings Cross I put here just because they might be of use to somebody. This was the Widened Lines with Class 31s on rakes of suburbans. The dining room of The Great Northern Hotel used to shake as the trains attacked the incline below it. Once again, I apologise for the quality. These are old 126 photos. Regards, Chris. Here we go, first lot.

RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 27, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2021 Some very interesting shots there, as you say maybe not the best quality but they're still a valuable record of the 'everyday' scene that has gone forever. Particularly like the shot at KX with the 31s and suburban stock.

The KX shots were taken during a holiday staying at the Great Northern Hotel. I lived on the end of this platform. 11Yrs old. I was watched by the station staff, I never ever felt any threat. In 2wks, I saw every Deltic. Travelled on the Widened Lines with my Dad, no shots I'm afraid. Saw the Yorkshire Pullman. The next holiday was spent at Paddington. Try and find the shots of that.

dagrizz
Nice to see the 31's at KX. I remember going there on day trips from home and seeing the 31's on regular commuter traffic going in and coming out of the hole. I haven't got any photos of them, and you don't see too many others either - they were not sexy like the deltics so people didn't take many pics of them. You did well so thanks. Graham I wished I'd had more film. That part of KX fascinated me. Same as the York Rd platform. I persuaded Mum to take me to York Rd. It meant me going outside station precincts, so I needed a parent. We boarded a train from that platform to Moorgate. Went to Farringdon and got a Q27 set back. AH the joys of rush hour and a Mum who was a Queen. Incidently, I was having a chat with my dear Friend Mike/Coachbogie. He said, "Take shots of DMUs, they wre going and the unsexy stuff should be recorded!" He was right and thanks to digital, I take reams of shots of the whole railway package. Regards, Chris.
