JackD48
I'm about to start building a GEM Webb 2-4-2. Searching the forums, I see that various people have built this kit, and I wonder if there any things to watch out for? It's the Lytchett Manor incarnation of the kit with the etched chassis. One thing that surprised me is that the chassis doesn't fit the footplate casting - either the footplate casting or the frames need to be modified to fit! It looks like modifying the frames is the easier option; is this so? Also, are there any suggestions for a motor/gearbox combination? the instructions mention a Mashima can and a Markits box. Steamport Southport
I've got the kit, but not the chassis. Must pick one up. Personally I would be thinking of altering the whitemetal chassis rather than messing with the etched chassis if it needs a bit of trimming. But are you sure it needs altering as it's the only 2-4-2T they do? As for motor/gears look at High Level. https://www.highlevelkits.co.uk/copy-of-shop I would think you would be looking at something similar to what is recommended for the Precursor or LSWR O2. Roadrunner+ with 60:1 gears. https://www.highlevelkits.co.uk/express-passenger Jason Edited March 30, 2021 by Steamport Southport
