bordercollie
Hi I am trying to research what type of wagons I need for my 1920s East Cornwall layout. I am after figures for meat and livestock movements from Cornwall to establish a rough idea of a suitable proportion of meat vans and cattle wagons required. Was there a sizable amount of meat sent to London or elsewhere? Also what was the pattern of livestock transport within Cornwall? Best wishes
RMweb Premium Kris Posted March 30, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30, 2021 Might be worth looking at the sites of cattle markets within Cornwall at this time (Truro, Helston, Liskeard as a starter). This should give you an idea as to some of the traffic locations and directions.
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted March 30, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30, 2021 A good indicator of the traffic would be the number of cattle pens at the stations despatching livestock and the locations abattoirs within the county. Some livestock in SE. Cornwall may have travelled to Plymouth for slaughter. How much meat was sent up the line, I have no idea.
