They haven't found Michael Caine under there have they?

Engage PITA mode.

As far as I'm aware MR Caine never made it to Seaham Harbour. He must have swam past it (or maybe he jogged down the old A19?) during the last scenes of the film, as he got from North Blyth staithes to Easington beach, a distance of some 25 miles with three river estuaries to cross, in about 45 seconds.

It must have been the tablets he was taking!

Disengage PITA mode.

You're just a boring old fuddy duddy P, why let the facts get in the way of things, and anyway, didn't Scunthorpe have a part in the film, an even longer jog from Seaham?!!

Maybe in the script but with the "S" and "thorpe" removed.

I've been in Fuddy Duddy mode since my Ma & Pa refused to buy me a Johnny Seven!

Without going back through 18 pages I spotted some tracks, an old crossing complete with signs and lights in the trees at Workington docks a few weeks back, next time I’m there I’ll get some pics

however here’s something a bit different!

Made time to divert a homeward journey in order to see the latest state of play at Seaham, thanks to the mentions by colleagues further up the page.

Not far away, and close to the foot of the former railway connection that's now a walking route, a couple of mini-bollards - former rail vehicle parts embedded in the street?

Mike.

The book that inspired the film was set in Scunthorpe, the location was changed to Newcastle/Tyneside as more people would know where it was.

Orwas it because there wasnt a multi storey car park for Alf Roberts to be thrown off

Even Horwich didn't go THAT narrow.

I’m struggling to infer anything helpful and specific from the standard gauge stuff in the background but the modern fencing and pile of concrete sleepers makes me think it isn’t a preserved line, which is odd. I could be wrong though...

I'm sure it's a gate guide. At the end is where a post went.

Kev.

(..but i'm quite often wrong in these things...)

The OP states 7.25".

I know, that’s what I edited for (didn’t spot that originally when reading the post). In some ways that makes it even harder to guess as there are probably more private miniature lines on 7 1/4” than 10 1/4.

Edit: the NRM used to have a 7 1/4” line (I think the fairly recent upgrade of this is now 10 1/4) but I don’t think it’s there...

We have/had a gauge similar at the depot with small wagons/trollies for doing brake block/pad changes. These are at the bottom of each pit and run to 300yds each.

Washwood Heath? In the vicinity of the old Metro-Cammell works?

Yeah it’s Tyseley, it runs round the edge of the car park at the depot/museum next to warwick road station so I assume it’s an old visitor ride, I can’t find any pictures of it on line though and I only ever visited there once when it was a proper museum when I was about 10 so wouldn’t remember it
