On the same day as the Bristol docks pictures I ended up having a mooch around Sharpness docks.

Granite blocks that supported rails are still visible at the redruth yard of the former 3ft gauge Redruth and Chacewater line, on the nearby treseavean branch trackbed  a short length of rail has been relaid on the original granite blocks

There are a few sections of narrow gauge track around Pentewan harbour. The line was used to bring china clay down to the harbour. Unfortunately the harbour was very prone to silting up.

The original Pentewan Railway ceased operating in 1918, though a later railway here used beach sand for making concrete blocks.

A single rail visible beside Pentewan harbour photographed by shadowman is part of the original railway. 9/10/2018.

Lines leading to the old loco shed. On the left it can be seen that the harbour entrance channel is completely silted up. 9/10/2018

cheers

Pentewan.

Lovely place.

Abandoned but not that old, Trafford Park, this track was part of a new curve built to get vans to Cerestar after a kickback was lifted on what is now Wharfside Way.  It went right through the middle of a roundabout built in the 90s to replace the original V junction here that has also now gone, replaced by the new larger roundabout with a road and tramlines through the centre.

Lovely place.

Especially without the china clay deposits on the beach, which you got in the 50s & 60s brought down by the St Austell ("White") River.

It used to get between the toes!

I used to do deliveries to Sharpness Docks in the '90s (pallets of marine paint to visiting ships, which was interesting) and found the old tracks fascinating. I think I have a trackplan for the docks somewhere.

Yes.

First visit I thought CC was the industry quite a few giveaway clues left about in the village but the bay view on the Mevagissy road is exceptional early mornings.

Bike trail up the disused Pentewan valley line and all the Birds of Prey in the forest.

Happy times.

Another topic made me take a look at one of the short mineral branches off the northern stretches of the Settle-Carlisle. I hadn't realised anything of these had survived but there are some rails still in the road, stretching a (very short) way in to a field - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.8517768,-2.8403835,3a,75y,296.2h,61.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDKC4oUdi4dP6D9GozQ89HA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?ucbcb=1

There are remains of the Silvertown tramway visable beneath elevated sections of the DLR.

Ah, funny you should post that, that's actually my video (so thank you for sharing). Related, I'm researching the old PLA lines in the area, both for a follow-up video and a micro-layout. Google Maps shows that there's quite a bit on London City Airport's land, although of course it's not easy to visit without getting some very tough questions from security.

There is a length of track visible through the airport's rear entrance and from Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge, you can see a siding in what is now a builders' yard. There used to be quite a bit around South Quay, but redevelopers are quite merciless and have little regard for picturesque dereliction.

Woodhead line, now Trans-Pennine Trail. Rail still in the road near Thurlstone, W of Penistone last Sunday:

There was another rail in the road at a different crossing in the same area, as well as a few cable run holders at crazy angles:

From March 2021, these are in Admiralty Yard, Upnor, on the River Medway, part of the former narrow gauge miltary railways in the area of Upnor, Chattenden and Lodge Hill:

Old contractors flat bottom rail holding up a wall over a small stream Embsay reservoir as res was completed 1908ish its stood the test of time..you can see fish plate holes on left end.few other bits of rail that are scattered round but vegetation has reclaimed...I did find a track spike in crumbled side into the res when water level was low...just got to open eyes stuff in plane view....some contractors rail also on Leeds Liverpool canal holding canal side in place near skipton so prob came off when midland route was made or line to ilkley as quite near Bridge over canal south end of skipton.

Bottom of contractors flat bottom has given up to rust but web an top looks good for another century
