Il Grifone
I'm probably late as usual, but, finding this, I thought it would be of general interest. http://www.cs.rhul.ac.uk/~adrian/steam/RCHWagons/index.html 3
RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted April 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2021 Sadly for me all post grouping drawings - but nevertheless a good find.

Il Grifone
Thanks! They were generally just a tightening up of the previous specification and represented the existing practice of the bigger/better wagon builders. I was looking for confirmation of a statement that oil axleboxes were specified from 1923, as I thought that grease boxes lasted rather longer than this. I still don't know if it was a requirement or just a recommendation, especially since the big companies were still in the process of switching. The GWR of course had been using oil boxes since at least the turn of the century. (Well before I believe!)
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted April 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2021 There are numerous older RCH PO wagon drawings in the book on the Ince Waggon Co - even the little used 1903 15 ton designs. https://hmrs.org.uk/publications/books/books-in-print/private-owner-wagons-from-the-ince-waggon-ironworks-co.html As well as the wagon drawings there are lots of drawings of buffers and axleboxes. The book title doesn't really tell the story of what is a very useful book. Jonathan 1
