unusual wagon brake gear

Does anybody know about this curiosity?

 

ive got an old book "The modellers sketchbook of private owner liveries, book 1" from 1969, i also have book 2 but thats irrelevant too this post. in this is a photo a Gloucester 8 ton with a different brake lever but the book doesnt say anything about it, its just used as an example photo of a PO wagon.

 

a short lever to the left instead of the usual long lever to the right being replaced by an arm and vertical link to the lever

There's a similar sort of photo on the HMRS website, but noted as being the Miller brake. https://hmrs.org.uk/photographs/either-side-brake-co-ec-8t-5-plank-open-no-4-osp-miller-brake-either-side-brake-compositenents-highlighted-mr-miller-on-left.html Although the principles appear the same, this one looks slightly different, and it is possible to make out the name Roberts on the door on No. 2, which suggests another patentee was involved.

whatever is going on, maybe the etiher side comapny contracted Gloucester to build wagons with one of each type of experimental brake levers, there could be more than these 2 types.
