Damo666
I saw an advertisement from a well known Sheffield retailer for a 2nd hand loco where the description says "8-pin ready ..... Analogue only - will not work when DCC fitted". What would cause this to happen.
WIMorrison
8 pin ready - exactly what it says, there is no decoder fitted hence it will not work on DCC. If it had a decoder fitted it would say Decoder Fitter. They are also wrong to say it will not work on DC when a decoder is fitted. The default settings for CV29 enables DC running for any DCC locomotive. You have to explicitly tun off DC running.
Nigelcliffe
Could have a wiring error in the loco - there are errors (some at factory) which can lead to working on DC (with blanking plate), but failing when a decoder is fitted.
jpendle
Hi, A blanking plate just shorts the track connections to the motor and lighting circuits. If the loco has a short somewhere else between the track and the motor, then it won't work with a DCC decoder but will work fine with a blanking plate. I've got a CL156 trailer car with this issue, lights work on DC but not on DCC. Regards, John P
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted April 27, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27, 2021 As Nigel and John suggest, it's probably got a fault in the PCB or wiring. Most likely is a direct connection between the motor and one of the track feeds. On DC this won't cause any problems. On DCC it'll stop the loco from running and possibly let the magic smoke out of the decoder. Steven B.
