Rebuilding and taiming smokey joe

Recommended Posts

Some years ago I saw an article in one of the model railway magazines in which the author had repositioned the motor and built a new gearbox from Squires gears, spindles and driven by a biro refil tube.  I had saved this article to get round to copying.  Now I've got the gears and spindles and can't find my copy of the article. does anyone else have knowledg of this subject and can you  help me with the details please.

Used the search facility and found a reference to Taming Smokey Joe. First time I have managed to find something.

Not saying this is correct but Railway Modeller June 2014 seems to be the place to look.

That's the article in question and it also refers to 'recent work done by Ken Chadwick'. A pair of books published by Silver Link?

It'll be these. Can't really comment as I've never looked at them, but they are very common and cheap as chips.

Normal price will be about a fiver. Do a search on Google and look on eBay.

Hattons have the second one for a reasonable price.
