The longer fibres were a make I can't remember as I've lost the card top off the bag, but it recommended by Gordon Gravatt in his book on scenics. I think they were about 6mm in length and were categorised as 'Winter'.

Probably Green Scene , that's what he was using last time I saw him.

Although I've not been feeling 100%, I decided to start the tree work.

After some experimentation, I realised to try and depict that late November look, the actual seafoam as it comes looks about right.

My only niggle is the colour of the stems, so I'm going to try running some thinners of a grey/brown colour down them.

JINGS that's perfection.
Bloody Gorgeous. I love the fact that No3 has no buffers, just as No3 had when she came to the TR.

Regards,
Chris.

Absolutely stunning. The crossing, the dirt road, 'Ta'n Ushtey', everything really, simply looks real.
Really inspirational modelling.
Cheers, Jacob.

Crikey, Tom! I looked at the first photo and though 'you can't beat that' and then looked at the second and thought 'you can't beat that.'

Then I looked at the last one... wow! You are an incredibly talented fellow!

Incidentally, I was driving into North Wales last week and spotted the Cwm Prysor station house and gate etc, made me think of your other work.

Absolutely speechless!

Incredible work, the trees, the long grass and the leaves on the floor. Your modelling is an inspiration!

Thanks Chris!

It's all been a big learning curve, but it means so much I have a three dimensional Awdry world I can disappear into now. The first of several Skarloey layouts!

It's a good drive past Cwm Prysor isn't it! one day I'll finish that layout!

Whenever we are heading to Wales, I give the dog a run on the trackbed which is a public footpath (towards Arenig).

I just showed my wife this picture and asked her where it was;

”Talyllyn”

”Yes, but where?”

”Oh, at the top end, where we cross back over; the forestry track”

Instantly recognisable!

Thanks for all the kind comments!

Last night, I went over the stems of the seafoam with 'dirty thinners' just to try and darken them that little bit. I think it has worked, and being able to see the trunks through the trees gives that feeling of translucence through the autumnal colours.

Wow. I genuinely thought you'd photoshopped your model to the background. I scrolled through them and realised you hadn't! I even shouted out "F**k off?!" because of realistic it is. You have a serious talent my friend. As others have said, instantly recognisable as Talylln.

If I can be half a good a modeller as you, I'll be very happy!

Keep up the good work, loving the pics

Cheers

Andy

Well that has to be the best compliment I could receive, thank you!

I've also been contacted today from Railway Modeller to do an article on the layout and my Skarloey modelling, plus an enquiry about taking it to its first exhibition!

Signing off for today, but here is one more photo.

'Empties for the Exchange Sidings'

You’ll have to let everyone know when the articles appear.

Another superb photo, by the way.

Oh my sainted aunt......just stumbled on your thread, faaantastic little layout and I thought Cwm Prysor was good (you inspired me to buy the book) ....crikey, this is just stunning.  You have captured the appearance of my favourite narrow gauge railway to a T, just blown out of the water with this.

Oh for a fraction of your skill.  I'm in awe.

I wanted to see what the view was like down the forestry track. As it happened I had the door open, meaning the foliage from the garden was in the shot too. I tweaked the colours to match the layout....and a lovely little scene came into being.

Simply lovely and proving that modelling Sodor is ‘serious’ fun too.

Tom, what did you use for the loco names and lettering?

I can't really take the credit, but my friend @ExplosiveCookie put me onto it. They are Fox Transfers individual letter (Cheltenham Gold I think) in the smallest size they do.

They are individual letters though.....so by the end of it you feel crosseyed!!!

Cheers Tom, it’s the closest I’ve seen to the illustrations so far, I’m going to have a go at making my own on clear transfer paper but if that looks bad I may follow you to crosseyed single letters ;)

Yes Sir Handel was depicted on arrival the same. It was fun to weather like this, with the scuffed paint around where the buffer of the stock touch the beam.

Morning Tom.

I have to say that the combination of your splendid photos and the wonderful original artwork make this a most attractive thread to visit.

Top stuff.

Rob.

Will No4 have his 'funny chimney' at any point?
Just a thought.
Chris.

Haha, alas no.

Peter Sam was fitted in 1961 with the Gisel, I'm modelling up to 1960.

Never say never though!
