Changing speaker from 8 to 4 ohms

Hi, I have a Hornby class 50 with loksound v4 decoder. It has an 8 ohm speaker in it, slightly too large to fit - can I just do a straight swap for a 4 ohm (3 watts) DC kits speaker from the spares box? Will the change from 8 to 4 ohms make any difference or affect the decoder ? Grateful for advice...

As 4 ohm speakers are the "ideal" speaker for the v4 decoders according to ESU, you should have no issues at all with the swap.

This is how ohm's works on speakers re Loksound V5 decoders.

1 X 4 ohm speaker is fine for V4 & V5 Decoders

1 X 8 ohm is fine but not as powerfull, so its quieter.

2 X 8 ohm's speakers wired in Parallel  will make them 4 ohms, thus louder.

1 X 6 ohm speaker wound work Ok too !!!
