Test shot ….. who are you trying to kid…. :D

Any excuse to have a quick blast around the track …. I know I do it all the time …. Looks nice between those rocks Al

Wasn't really time to play, they're not even coupled up!

The rocks are certainly working! You now actually loose the train completely for a couple of track lengths if you're sat at the other end of the garden!

There has been actually gardening going on in the garden this morning. The last of the soil we had delivered has been moved and for the most part the scenery is planted. One small section to do when the last bit of wiring is done but we need more soil for that. so now as we have guests this afternoon a couple of trains have come out to play again.

Jim, the electrician did  few bits yesterday, which allowed the landscaper to shutter some more off, for the gardener to fill and plant this morning. There has subsequently been a trip to the garden centre to procure some more plants which will be planted once there is a bit more shade!!

As much as it has closed a couple of photographing options off a little it has made some more interesting shots available.

Well I said I wasn't going to have any 20's, but as my mainline fleet basically consists of a 26 and a raft of 37's when one came up mint for a sensible price I couldn't resist now I have somewhere to run them. Unfortunately for my wallet at the ECT do this weekend it found a stable mate. The blue one has an identity in mind but now I need to research the RF one!

An afternoon play has also been had now the wiring is complete!

I love when you're waiting for something to arrive and then two come along at the same time :D

Well, neither were planned but the fleet is currently predominantly 37's so figured I needed something to break it up! The first one has been paid for for a while but I hadn't picked it up!

Do love a pair of whistling 20’s making a din. They look great Al.

What was the ‘wobbler’ thrown by the tractor? Mine has developed a short, not sure how Im going to fix the issue.

For some reason I had traction but no lights or sound. Couldn't figure it out so swapped the chip for one ready to go into another loco, still just traction. All wires present and correct so I was stumped. Both chips were still set to three but figured 423 should really have its correct address either way, changed the address and hey presto everything worked! Its been thrashing round the garden again tonight quite happily.

Had a few visitors today for a session in the garden this afternoon, had to dodge a couple of showers but the sun did come out a couple of times. Didn't get chance to phot everything in between making brews and chatting. I'll see what pictures some of the others took and drop a few in here at some point.

I finally figured this needed its own thread rather than clogging up my Workbench thread which isn't getting any workbench items on it at the moment, oh well.

When we moved house a few years ago we got a fairly large blank canvas of a garden, a rotten 6x4 shed, a lawn and a HUGE pile of rocks. In between other jobs we started cleaning up the rocks and moving them to one end of the garden, they were massively overgrown and there was a good few ton of them. Early last year we placed and order for a new more substantial shed and  in between lock downs a pad got laid, the shed fitted and a new patio in front of it laid. We always planned to have some form of raised beds and planning permission form the boss was duly granted for the Railway to go in the garden, in fact I think now it is coming together she is more excited about it than me. Well the block work is in, just needs filling and cladding, but also the track work has well and truly started. The picture below pretty much gives an overview of the space, its nothing complicated, a simple two track loop, some points at the rear to allow access to/from the main lines and that's about it. This is not about the play factor but simply to be able to run trains without the need for shuttling back and forth.

Cam managed to finish the outer loop today so the teat train came back out. 37423 as its the easiest loco  to access atm and the cargowaggons as they are the longest vehicles in the current fleet.

Therre may or may not be further progress this week, we will see. But conduit and additional wire has been ordered and should be here in a day or two.

Hello @D6775Al, I have watched this thread from afar, and it is definitely coming on leaps and bounds, can I ask a question please ? What is the approximate overall size Length x Width of area the running lines are placed in please ?

Best regards

Craig

Its roughly 12'2" x 21' for the running loops. A little tight on the curves but don't have any issues with RTR stuff. Kits are being a bit of a pain but I think it is more my building than the kits themselves. Bogie stock is generally fine. I think a lot of it is to do with weight.

Well I wasn't expecting to be out in the garden this weekend, but after an afternoon sunning myself in a beer garden yesterday, the yellow thing in the sky is back out again today so the opportunity to give 37418 a test run has been taken. Still a lot to do in terms of weathering but it is now chipped and a runner. Hopefully crack on with it this week.

Cam came round last night and as it was dry we had a bit of a play and ran in his 60059. Some of these pix have appeared in his Dovedale thread but I have added some others here. We couldn't get  Catfish/Dogfish rake to behave last night but as it has dry again today I have had a session and got them to at least run in one direction reliably.

Hi Al,

Just about to start the VGA, I notice some weights have been included did you find these sufficient?

Also the chassis is bent and they suggest really hot water to straighten it out, was this the same when you built yours?
Regards

Julian.

To be honest I ditched the weight as I didn't want anything that could potentially come loss inside the body. I added car wheel balance weights above the axles on the underside of the chassis. One of my sides was a little bent and yes putting them in hot water works. If you have a flat bottomed sink then lay it in that with some weigh on top might work?

Thanks Al, sides and especially the chassis were bent.

I have bricks as weights trying to straighten the chassis out over night after a soak in hot water.
