Popular Post Giles
For the next layout - 'The Sparrow' I need some different wagons, and I thought I'd have a bash at making some timber side tippers. They need to work of course, as the ship has to be loaded somehow! I've made a couple of prototype, and I'm nearly there with them. Tigermoth
That loco's been nicely painted. Well done for the skips.

Woody C
There are moments when I just sit in awe as to how someone achieves excellence. This is one of those moments. Much respect Giles for not only coming up with the idea but producing a prototype that is better looking and finished than my best models! The video is great for illustrating clearly how it all goes together and works. Thanks.
Stoker
Visually these remind me a lot of the Western Scraper side dump wagons that were surplus WW1 stock. There were a lot of manufacturers of this style, Fairbanks Morse, Orenstein and Koppel/Arthur Koppel, Western Scraper, and Hudson, to name just a few. I seem to recall at least one of the Staffordshire Ironstone tramways had a fleet of them.
Stoker
Just found the reference for the use of these in the Staffordshire ironstone. Might be of some interest. 1

Giles
Six are completely finished, and the rest just need the couplings fitted and painting- so they're not far off..... These pics give an idea of size. They work fine. They are rather crude in their build, but they do have their own character - so that will have to do. The only sensible way to have done this quantity better would have been to get some etches made up and approach some things differently - but to be honest, even these have taken quite a lot longer than I envisaged. 6
Giles
This is one of five radio controlled locos that will be working the layout. The body is an old Agenoria kit, and the chassis is scratch-built (0-14) 6

Giles
Ive been building a pair of Bagnall Ashanti Diesels - because I like them - and they are rather unusual. They are nearing completion, but still with a little way to go...... 1
Giles
The Ashanti's are finished - one has gone to a new home, and the other is definitely for me! 4
Giles
Having acquired a couple of 009 Bachmann WD 4-6-0's, simply because theyre so good, I thought would make some wooden side tippers for them to work with. Being so much smaller than the 14mm ones, a different approach was called for, so my Mars 2 Pro 3D printer was the tool of choice. I drew the wagon up on Design Spark Mechanical (by RS) and various prototypes worked through till I was happy. All the rest of them to paint now! Giles
Half a dozen finished...... I'm pleased with how they've come out, at any rate. 6 1
Stoker
I saw your initial video about these when you posted it on youtube, and I have to say they've come out looking really good! They're a nice fit size-wise for the Baldwin. May I ask what you're using for wheels?
Giles
Thank you. They are 6.2mm wheels from Mosskito Narrow Gauge, available ftom Light Railway Stores. They really are nice!
MarcD
Just sen you man pushing over the tippers. Do you think it would work with KB v skips? Or do you think they would be to light? Marc
Giles
It would work if the position and angle is right...... I used to tip KB scale tippers on THE END OF THE LINE very successfully, although the tippers themselves needed fettling and polishing in order to tip reliably.
