The Model Railway Club recreates historic King’s Cross railway workers’ mug!

Based on archaeological excavations adjacent to Central St Martins, their exclusive new artwork revives the historic Goods Station Refreshment Club. Hand crafted in Stoke on Trent, these glazed china mugs make a perfect gift for Father’s Day.

From its very beginning, King’s Cross goods yard had a staff food facility – this developed into the ‘Goods Station Refreshment Club’ sometime between 1873 and 1884, continuing to grow in size into the last century. The MRC have a model of this building on their 2mm scale layout, Copenhagen Fields.  The prototype building had been demolished by 1970, but during recent archaeological excavations a significant number of remains of Refreshment Club mugs were found, stylishly decorated with red banding and a transfer-printed circular ‘G.N.R.’ logo *.

The Club has had facsimile fine china mugs made with the characteristic banding and motif. They are dishwasher safe and a good size with a generous handle and ideal for dunking biscuits!

Just ordered one, what sold it to me was that they're china (not keen on fat porcelain ones for daily use) and that they're made in the Potteries. And it supports a nice bunch!

The mugs have been going fast over the last 4 days, and we're into our last carton of them.

Saturday is pretty full for the behind the Scenes tours - a few tickets left in the afternoon. Still a few places though on Sunday when parking nearby is free.
