PatC
Just two weeks until Narrow Gauge South. For those of you travelling to visit the show please have a look on the website http://www.narrowgaugesouth.org.uk/wp/?page_id=629 for transport information. The nearest mainline stations are Southampton Airport Parkway and Eastleigh. Both are about 25/30 minutes walking time from Barton Peveril College . Links to the local Blue Star bus services routes 5/5a (from Eastleigh station, stops outside the college) and 2 may be found on the website. The Xela Bus service doesn't serve the college at weekends. If you're coming via Southampton Airport Parkway don't forget the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway option http://www.steamtrain.co.uk/ . The railway is just a few minutes walk from Parkway. Get a return ticket and alight at Monks Brook Halt. Follow the narrow path out past the allotments and then up the lane between the lock up garages until you emerge on Monks Way. Turn left and walk to the end, then right and you'll see Barton Peveril College a couple of hundred yards along Chestnut Avenue. Walking time is just four or five minutes. The railway will be running trains until 5.10pm on the day so you can catch a return service on the way back. There is also ample parking at the railway so it would be another option for those of you coming by car to use it as a park and ride service to the show. Eastleigh Lakeside Railway is a fabulous operation with an enviable collection of motive power so well worth a look on the day. Keep an eye on our website for the latest information. jbe
As 009 Society members may know, the 009 Society AGM will take place at the same site as Narrow Gauge South on Saturday. Unfortunately in early editions of the Show Guide, the starting time is not shown correctly. The correct starting time is 2pm. My apologies to members and the show organisers for any confusion.
