They make the full range of the Scorpion family of vehicles, and the BV206 all of which are in gauge. Assembly is straightforward, some fettling and filing might be required, and you'll need to paint and apply decals. Ideal for the new Cavalex Warflats and the Heljan Warwells. I want to create 2 trains with my Warflats/Warwells. One for the 1990s and one for the 2000s. I have a cheeky question. MyRule1 Posted July 4, 2021 Share Posted July 4, 2021 Not sure about modern vehicles but I certainly know that for certain WW2 tanks the difference between 1:72 and 00 (1:72) made them out of gauge when used on railway layouts, as many 1:1 tanks were built as close as possible to the loading gauge. See this thread for a discussion of the 1:72 and 1:76 (OO) issue and the conclusion that the relevant SandS models vehicles will fit on Warflats without looking too big. sandsmodels Posted July 5, 2021 Author Share Posted July 5, 2021 hi thanks for the nice comments. wargamers have very little worries about mixing scales as we have generaly plenty of room, but i can see a situation where a train has bridges and other trains to pass by, we thought long about what size to call our models and the vast majority are 1/72 especialy the later ones but some of the earlier models are slightly smaller, sort of in between 76-72 scales. i do not like the description 20mm as most of our figs are 23mm tall but it is a well missused term in gaming circles. what i would say is that we can always measure a model for those who are interested and then you can decide whether to buy or not, i have seen pics on here showing some of our models on carriages so that also makes it easier to judge. sadly i have little info on how, when or where certain vehicles were transported if at all but i do know that if ww3 went hot a lot would have been tried to get to the south coast by rail but in war plans seldom survive long a few well placed bombs would have put the entire south east rail net work out of action. the saxon 4x4 apc was designed to be driven by the TA from uk to germany by road (except for the channel) asap so may not have even used the rail network at all. a lot would have gone to marchwood port in hants then got onto ships. thanks shaun Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are photos of 'Saxons' on here, I believe, along with all the usual suspects. Even during WW2, whilst the Churchill was nominally rail-transportable, some exterior fittings had to be removed. Roddy Angus Posted July 5, 2021 Share Posted July 5, 2021 I don't know if it would help but if you can find out details of Exercise Lionheart you might be able to see how various units/vehicles were, and would have been, transported. This was a large scale mobilisation exercise to test how troops and equipment, including TA, would be transported to continental Europe, should the balloon go up. I am not sure how much rail transport was used in reality. We drove our rovers and 3 tonners from Leith to South Shields, including going through Newcastle under police escort and ignoring red lights, which was fun, and then went by an RFA ship to I think Belgium. Coming back was more relaxed, by North Sea Ferries, but I think a lot of the civvies were a bit confused by the number of squaddies on board. Clearing customs was also fun, including a 3 tonner of booze consisting of everyone's alcohol allowance. You may be able to find out if rail was used for any transportation during the exercise, as a lot of the detail will now be declassified.
