ianmacc
Hi all. My R3582 class 87 King Arthur (the new one not the ex Lima offering) derailed on some incorrectly set points and now it will only run in one direction! In the other direction it moves off at barely a crawl before stopping after a few inches. In the other direction it is fine, but then every now and the there are sparks from the wheels following by a momentary “grunch” sound and a stop before it carries on again after a fraction of a second. If it’s going very fast the “grunch” sound is followed by the same crawl and stop effect as in the stationary direction. After a few seconds stopped it “reboots” and runs again. It seems to be some kind of short and/ or mechanical issue. How easy is the locomotive to take the body off and have a look? Is this a take to the shop for a repair job? Any ideas? 33C
Sounds like the magnet/armature may have picked up a small piece of metal (wire, track pin). I have had this before and it upsets the continuity but did allow movement until it jammed again. Have a GOOD look around the mechanism as it may be microscopic! Good luck....

RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted July 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 4, 2021 If you no longer have the service sheet that came with the loco, you should be able to find it on the Hornby website: https://support.Hornby.com/hc/en-gb 1

Going Spare
Looking at Service Sheet 436 which was accessible on the old Hornby website but not on the new one, there are no screws shown and it appears that Hornby have reverted to the traditional method of chassis lugs at the base of each cab door, plus one at the mid point locating in to recesses on the body.
RAF96
If a reset of the decoder doesn’t fettle it then it sounds like the short has killed one half of the H-bridge motor driver.
Going Spare
Service Sheet 436B is now available for downloading from the Hornby site.
