Egypt will release the container ship that blocked the Suez Canal in March, after it agreed a compensation deal with the vessel's owners and insurers.

The two sides said the Ever Given would be allowed on Wednesday to leave the Great Bitter Lake, the canal's midway point, where it has been impounded.

The deal's terms were not revealed, but Egypt had demanded $550m (£397m)

The vessel initially sailed to Port Said where it anchored for safety checks on it's hull. It weighed anchor yesterday and is now en route to Rotterdam, expected to arrive around 25th July, and will then call at Felixstowe and other European ports.

Ever Given is passing Ibiza now. Apparently it failed its seaworthiness inspection and has been limited to 10 knots. It will sail to Rotterdam and be fully unloaded.

The consequences of this are: -

1 - At that speed it will not make Rotterdam on 25th July at 18:00 as predicted. It has c 2000 miles to do at 10 mph, that's 200 hours or 9 days, so July 30-31.
2 - Instead of the ship unloading them coming to the UK, it will be unloaded, stored and then reloaded onto another ship to queue to enter the UK.

So, will they arrive in August at all?

Arrive in the UK? Perhaps

Arrive in shops? Unlikely, I’d say.

Has this just changed ?

Several sites reported it was dropping Hamburg, Hamburg’s loads will be left in Rotterdam for Ever Utile to collect, then heading to Felixstowe.

for instance this one, among others..

point of information- 10 knots equals 11.508mph.

transit equals 173 hours not 20, which equals 7.24 days.

July 28 at Rotterdam accords with these numbers.

No need to do maths, the various marine tracking sites give you the eta - currently 29/7 at Rotterdam.

So they've succeeded in evading the Pirates of Penzance.

But maybe caught by the Wreckers of Wight, as it was halted for several hours between the Isle and the French coast. Have to look on eBay for my O&K wagons.

On the move again now.

Left hand down a bit.

Sorry pardon.

In true HMS Troutbridge fashion left hand down a bit  would have sent it off towards Eire! I guess, luckily, Leslie Phillips wasn’t steering as it got into the Channel.
