I remember very well the BR Blue era and most of my models are of that era. My BR era stuff is mainly Lickey route stuff and my unfinished railway would be a kept open closed station. It will have DMUs from Tyseley Bristol and Cardiff and shunters from Gloucester.

BUT I also like hydraulics and GWR steam. there are other interests such as a MR 2P.

Reading books about the 1950s and 60s in the south west also interested me, I have travelled down that way in mid 60s pre blue grey, but my earliest reliable memory is a Warship on Maroon Blue Grey.

A recent purchase of an NBL type 2 got me thinking.

I seriously considered modelling part of the Falmouth branch, due to a signal box over a running line. But in the end the Helston branch got me.

Why?

It is closed and possibly lost for ever, also my father remembers it well as he is from Lizard. Also I can build one within 2m and 1.5m for visible section, stretch to 2.4 x 1.8 for breathing space, final sizes though not final.

In the end two pictures pushed me. Also a book with plans. One was of a NBL type 2 with a Sunshine brake and a non corridor third. And pictures of the platforms and sidings at Nancegollan.

So utterly weird.

So far I have 2 locos, 5 carriages and a handful of wagons.

My locos so far are a Bachmann small prarie which will require rebranding to BR and some lining added.

The other is a Dapol 22.

Carriages so far.

An Airfix based B Set will be a pair which operated on the railway, however the pictures I have seen appear to be later ones like the Comet kit.

A Comet Sunshine BTK, seen a piccie of one so that was sorted.

2 kit bashed 1950s Hawksworth thirds. Mousa C83 sides, my ends, MJT bogies, roof, vents, Comet chassis buffers.

All 5 will be in maroon

Wagons, so far a few Airfix cattle and a few other older vans pre TOPS I can't use on my blue layout.

I do need a couple more prairies and some ex LMS ironstone hoppers.

Almost OT!  Having welsh heritage I keep wanting to pronounce the double L in Nancegollen in the welsh way.  How do the Cornish pronounce it?

Paul.

No idea, I'll ask when next down there.

I also will try a still open run with a 118 DMU or a railtour with a cross county set

A lot closer than me and the right side of the water.  It’s good enough for me.

Paul.

Just checked the station and put some more filler on the window sills.

Hopefully will smooth and profile tomorrow.

Then I need to contemplate DMU door hinges.

More window filing but also started on plinth bricks, long edge done, will soon start drawing up the signal box.

Also the roofs and canopy.

Getting low on brick plastic card, I hope I have enough for the box.

Doesn't look much different despite 6 hours of work

Still doing the window sills, I will thin the lintels when fully set, but I have not got any decent 5 thou card. I used offcuts from a DMU cut.

Just had a look upstairs

Found some BR vent vans but TOPs so stayed in the box along with the vanwides.

Anyway my haul found

One Airfix mineral as kit, no VB conversion, ALL of my others are top flap modded VB with 4 or 8 shoes

One Cooper Craft W5 I will repaint

One Airfix meat van, swap out wheels, use as is as bauxite

One Parkside insulated van lots of bits missing, no roof, no brake gear no sign of bits.

One Ratio MOGO no roof, no buffers

One Ratio 5 plank - repaint

One Bachmann V34 with no brake cylinder nor tie rods.

Not a bad haul

Today is a buffer fitting session, doing the two ratio in wrong boxes.

The two thirds have been fibreglass penciled smooth and reprimed.

Found the filled home in the first B set was visible, needs more filler.

Now scanning Ebay for more Bachmann 45xx, found a really badly professionally weathered, will watch and if still there pounce and respray.
