Yeovil Junction - early '50s

These two images of a late friend's collection shows Yeovil Junction in the very early '50s.

In the background in the town 'bunk' hauled by an M7 (just in shot) but it is confusing, dark red with what could R could be a yellow/gold line below the windows. Btw, in the first unrecorded shot the set number appears to be three digits, not gate stock as there appears to be a lack of gates.

Any explanations?

Pull and push set 734, converted from ex-LSWR so-called "emigrant" coaches during WWII, formed BTK-CK and gangwayed within the set, and seen here in the early BR lined crimson livery for secondary stock - you can see why the lining was sooned dropped from the livery as it rarely suited panelled vehicles.

Sets 734 and 735 were allocated to Exeter as spares, primarily to replace rostered pull and push sets as required but sometimes used on hauled services as well. Yeovil Junction - Yeovil Town would have been a typical place to see them and they were also often used on Brookwood - Bisley specials for rifle events at the latter.

Becasse took the words out of my mouth!  734 certainly got about; for instance it did at least one stint on the Callington branch, not working in P&P mode.  I have a very nice model of this set in lined crimson by 'Northstar Design'.
