RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2021 (edited) My original plan was to mate the Rivarossi loco bodies to some dcc ready Atlas chassis. However when transporting the locos in their Rivarossi plastic box from my 6th floor flat to the garage for storage, the box slipped and fell 6 floors down the central well of the spiral staircase onto the tiled floor below. Fortunately no one was hurt but the locos, as you might imagine, didn’t fare that well. As I only need the bodies I have collected the pieces and a jigsaw puzzle come “kit assembly” process will now commence. I have the technology. I can rebuild it. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted July 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2021 I have fitted DCC sound to couple of those for a couple of people but didn't realise that the plastic bodies would be that brittle. Good luck with rebuilding them.
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 18, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2021 (edited) Body reconstruction completed. One is pretty much 100%, however the other is missing a front window pillar and part of the rear end. I will scratch these out of plasticard and blend them in with filler. There are also some small impact “craters” that will need to be filled. An overall primer coat followed by more sanding and filling and I think we’ll be there. Steadfast
Nice rescue job Darius. I'm sure the amount of aircraft kits you've built and modified has helped here. Jo 1

Good luck with rebuilding them. It has probably deteriorated with age - it seems to afflict some models more than others. I have found Jouef Mk3s to be quite brittle too....

RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 23, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2021 Took the opportunity to replace the molded on bonnet handrails with 0.3mm dia brass wire. Priner coat applied. Cheers Darius 1
