Amusing but don't be distracted. Always strive for the smoothest track you can reasonably achieve. The cost of a full O gauge train hitting the ground is terrifying.

Oh, and yes, these should be only be used for track alignment.  Each piece of track should be connected via droppers to the DCC bus.

I just had a look at Hattons and I believe I used the SL-10 joiners (these are specifically recommended for code 124 BH).  You also might want to get SL-11, insulated joiners.

 

I googled SL-710, these are for code 143 flat bottom rail.  I don't do flat bottom and I suspect they will be too wide for BH.
