Thin black wire used by Hornby to connect between tender and loco, specifications please?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am looking for some thin black wire like the stuff Hornby and others use to wire up locos and to go between tender and loco.

Way smaller than 7/02.

Does anyone know the specs and where I can buy a few metres please?

Is it for example 24, 28 or 30AWG?

You could use what is sold as "decoder wire" available in most colours, so you could buy a few metres of that:

Sorry too late (I've just seen it), but there would be plenty of suitable wire in an old SCART cable or possibly a phone charger cable. (The latter seem to last about five minutes before they fail at one (or both) ends. It's not the fault of the wire, just the weak connection to the plug, which has insufficient support.)
