Bath bankers in the 1920/30s

In the 1920s it would have been the Fox Walker tanks. As these were withdrawn in the early 30s they would have been replaced by Bagnalls (Jinties). That said, photographic evidence suggests whatever was in the yard at the time could have been used including Scotties, 3Fs and 4Fs.

There is a lovely description in Peter Smiths Footplate over the Mendips of Donald Beale having his first footplate experience on a Fox walker banking a freight out of Bath.

By coincidence, a message appeared elsewhere on the web today reporting that a 'Jubilee' (which was banned from the line) was used as a banker on one occasion as in the dark the driver mistook it for a 'Black 5' :-)
