Robert Searle
Can anyone advise if British Rail used Leyland Boxers? Thanks.

The openings in the box over the cab were for carrying telegraph poles, and other masts. I am happy to be proved wrong, but I think by the time Leyland brought out the Boxer, BR had more or less standardised on the Ford D Series and the Bedford TK, so they didn't buy any Boxers.
37114
The boxer was a heavy weight version of the Terrier which BR bought in big numbers for the Personnel carriers, never seen a BR boxer though. The Terrier being below 7.5t could be driven on a car licence where as the bigger Boxer couldn't.
andye
The terrier was also used for dropsides, some had a hiab type crane on, and there were some box vans as well, and as said above lots of short wheelbase personnell carriers. Look out for the Railway motors group on flickr, with Merfyns pictures, and also a BR road vehicles group on facebook.
Merfyn Jones
Yes B R did have a number of Boxers, mainly with the second style of cab front. All those I know of had drop-side bodies. However I have no pictures of my own to publish here.
Robert Searle
Thanks for the information. I had a feeling I had seen a photo of one with a set of wheels on board.

The yellow box bodied ones are ex-BT cable gang wagons, the flap above the cab was to carry long ladders. https://www.britishtelephones.com/vehicles/specialist/236.htm Telephone poles were carried (and put up) by purpose built pole erection units https://www.britishtelephones.com/vehicles/peu/010.htm Nick
