No Decorum, not disgusted at all, only ever willing to improve my knowledge, even at my senior years ! LOL,

Tell me more, what decoder is required ? Have you done this and seen the results ? How does a DCC chip allow a DC controller to control it ?

Most DCC chips are able to run on DC like any other DC loco would.

I'm most interested in a Malachite version but I've only seen images of IOW examples in the livery. Anyone ever seen a photo of Mainland one in the livery please?

No such photos exist for the simple reason that no mainland O2 received malachite.

Well that was a nice surprise sat on the doormat :) Calbourne has arrived from the IoW steam railway and it comes with etched plates to fit and the usual bufferbeam details. Runs silently too so very pleased :)

I have the model of Calbourne, arrived this week.

Does anyone else's example have the running plate slightly warped?

I've seen another example and it's the same.

A gentle undulation on the nearside and curving up a bit at the front offside before the bufferbeam.

My #182 has arrived.

The box has grown a bit since the first edition.

The first photo of this topic gave the impression of a two tone livery. No such problem with this model to my eyes, it all looks the same shade of green to me. However when it comes to digital photography there is something odd going on, see below.

Olympus camera, LED light.

Olympus camera, natural light (cloudy).

iPad camera (HDR), LED light.

It runs fine straight out of the box.

Not Calbourne, but my 182 has the following....

The other sides fine weirdly.

One of Chale's coupling rods was rattling around in the box when I opened it. I reattached it and it seems to run OK, but (given the ease with which it went back) I have little confidence that it won't fall off again in the future. I would have been much happier if the chassis had been improved post-DJ Models.

Also, I know this marks me out as being not a proper modeller, but I find it really annoying when, after I've fitted the tension-lock couplings, I have to take a scalpel to the packaging in order to get the loco back in the box.

However, all said, it is a lovely looking loco, and the livery that I had hoped would be produced.

You got one already, didn't think they were out till this week.

It shouldn't have the reinforcement plate at the bottom of the tanks. Thought that was added by the IoW, the original batch from Kernow didn't have it.

Yes it should have the reinforcement, I cannot post the Copyright picture but it definitely has the reinforcement.  It was on the original batch as well, albeit as K2103 number 30182 in BR livery.

Not on a Southern Dark Olive livery number 207.

At present I can't find a photo of 182 in dark olive livery with the 'plate' attached.

But we are not talking about 207, we are talking about 182.  As I said, I have a picture of 182 in the Southern Olive livery with the reinforcing plate. I will PM you with it, perhaps then you will believe me!

We believe you because Graham asked this in the post Neil linked to and he wouldn’t have progressed it without the evidence :)

I liked Calbourne so much I splashed out on Newport. One thing that stood out was the contrast between rods and crankpins so . . .

I added a dab of silver to the crankpins and will lightly weather them both once that’s dry.

Got my 182 today thanks to Derails excellent service (as usual)

Has a slight banana on the offside, the nearside is dead straight.

Lovely little runner, quiet & smooth, now fitted with a Lenz Silver Mini for DCC.

It might be in a brand new and bigger EFE/Bachmann box but still says Kernow on the bottom of the loco!

Yep, got my model from the IOW delivered a few days ago. I hoped it was a bad instance but from what I see here perhaps not -_-

From what I can see from the attached photos, one side (white paper) shows a dip of the running plate around the cab.

I think the other side (black ruler) doesn't just go up at the end, rather it also dips at the front of the tank and then recovers upwards as you can see from the third photo with the ruler aligned with the bottom of the buffer beams at both ends.

For all the rest of the detail it's a shame a fundamental quality control issue wasn't caught for that price. I'll let the shop know so they can feed back.
