Pontrilas Signal box

Recommended Posts

.Hi.

I have been on holiday this  week at Pontrilas station

As my train photos capture the GWR signals & the box here I am wondering if plans of the signal box are available to inspire me to create this in a model form.

Lucky my local ex box ''Pinxton'' was produced my Hornby several years ago !

Thanks

Good there isn't it? maybe not so busy freight wise these days. Is it still run by the lovely older Brother/Sister combo who are solid Enthusiasts?

Yes they are running it.

Just booked for week next year.

A few freights still running to get excited with.....

thanks.

  • 2 years later...

Back in the  Pontrilas station again for a weeks holiday,

Booked workings of 13 class 67 loco hauled passenger trains on weekdays this time.

plus the new class 197's units

Hopefully a few freights.

Talk of a new station still ongoing & lucky not at the original site & assume a park & ride near the Sawmill,,,

Happy hols.

Is it still run and owned by the Brother and Sister, Rail Enthusiasts both?

Working the 8M01 Cardiff Long Dyke-Croes Newydd one night in what was probably 1971 or 72, I put off a loaded GPV (Penrhyndaudraeth Quarry traffic) with a hotbox here once.  The signalman was not happy about it!  There were, IIRC, two kickback sidings off the up loop which were used for this purpose, and they were behind the box; no idea if they or even the formation are still there, but the exit dummy can be seen in the photo so it might be, hidden in the undergrowth...

Told the siding in front of the box & back to the station building the undergrowth was cut back extensively last week & it is ''noticeable''with night time work in the area & here at the station next weekend....from the regular inconvenience network rail letter. Sad I go home Friday night!

When I went here a few times in the 90s, the Timber Sidings were still in use and there were some 'mixed' Freights too; forgotten their names now. Loadhaul?

Main Traffic was Steel and the inevitable Bog Carts of course.

Great to see a REAL loco operated Train even if it is pushing!

I was never brave enough to ask the Bobby for a visit.

Thanks and hope you enjoyed your week.

Phil
