Thanks Ade, I look forward to seeing your progress mate. 1

Andrew P
This morning I've fitted a switch for the power feed to the DCC Bus. Basically its a plastic box. I cut the top off and fitted a push to make button. Then when the flap comes down, it pushes the button down. And BINGO, we have Track power. David Cheers Guys, I used the plastic box so that there is some flexibility as I have set it about 1mm to high, but the box gives enough movement.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted September 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2021 (edited) As long as you don't catch it walking in to or out of the Pod... Can you put it on the end of the V block rather than the front ? Edited September 6, 2021 by Stubby47 6
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted September 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2021 Hi Andy, That switch looks like it's only designed for momentary contact. If so, it will probably be unreliable for the job you want it to do in the long run. I suggest a microswitch, designed to flip between two states and hold them for long periods, would do a better job. 3 3

Its only sticking out about 1/4 inch beyond the support frame below and with the rounded corners its O.K. and being plastic, its flexible.

Not thought of that, I'll be doing some testing this week so will find out, it was on for about an hour this morning after I fitted it. Cheers for the tip, and info. 5

shedman
Vey nice, Andy. I hope it goes past the platforms, that step on the middle of the side girder sticks out quite a bit; or is it H0 Scale? Great work so far. It's interesting to see how someone else does things. All the Best, Trevor 1

All the Best, Trevor Thanks Trevor, I haven't tried it through the Platform Roads but the other two are o.k. so I'm guessing that will be, I'll try it when I go out there later. Cheers.

RMweb Gold Donw Posted September 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2021 WRT the push button assuming it is suitably rated (I would opt for 5A but at least 2A) it should be ok because generally there will be little or no current when lifting or restoring the flap. It is there for safety in case. Don
RMweb Premium Izzy Posted September 7, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2021 Does not the DCC bus feed to the layout, or at least a good length of track either side of the flap go through it? Otherwise there is danger of plummeting stock if it’s not down. If taking the bus feed at least 5amp would be safer. I assume it’s just a non- latching push button, which aren’t often rated for continuous current flow. 1
