Welcome to our September 2021 issue of BRM, introducing our first videos for World of Railways TV, for digital readers and print subscribers! Available digitally now from www.pocketmags.com/BRM, and in stores.

A varied assortment of content this month, but centre-most is our focus on viaducts. Inspirational modelling advice, with some excellent prototypes to consider – a challenging prospect for the modeller looking to push the boundaries!

WOR TV this month features: 'Heaton Lodge Junction' – an interview with Simon George, model boats for railway modellers, and a tour of bridges and viaducts for model inspiration.

LAYOUTS
The diverse model railways inside this issue include: 'Heaton Lodge' (O). With more than 100 baseboards, and measuring more than 180ft in length, Britain’s Biggest Model Railway is now complete and ready to hit the road...

Really enjoyable issue - I’m really warming to the Pocketmag digital edition with all its extra content.  The video of Heaton Lodge was really exciting.  What a fantastic achievement - you really have to give Simon George a lot of credit for his determination in creating this highly realistic mammoth.  I wish him really well on his tour with this and hope a lot of people go and see it - I’m sure this is layout going to provide a huge boost to the hobby.  Just imagine being a kid again and going to see something like this for the first time!

The rest of the content was fab too especially Dave Hall’s micro shunting schemes.  Well done yet again guys and I can’t wait to pick up my print copy tomorrow.

The lighting article came a little late for me as I'd just finished the mark 1 version of the lighting rig for Bregenbach im Schwarzwald - using warm white LEDs in a diffuser!

It also has a curved viaduct just visible in the upper picture, but isn't likely to make BRM as it is a Black Forest layout........  As a shameless plug come and inspect it next weekend at South Notts Show in Cotgrave. (4th and 5th Sept).

Jamie's article (and videos) on LED lighting was excellent and just what I was after, following on from reading about the subject in Rice's scribblings in his Cameo Layouts book.

I've researched it and think I've found most of the materials and hardware online (mostly on eBay), but I can't find (the right search criterion) extruded aluminium strips with the diffusers he uses.

Any pointers to these would be most gratefully received?

PS: just purchased my first digital edition of the mag and I'm well Impressed

Cheers

Dubya

Looks good, Les. Sorry that the article wasn't out in time to help, but your set-up looks pretty good. Considering your lighting rig doesn't look to extend over the front (and there's only one 'run'), you've done well to light the whole layout to the degree that you have.  The right hand side looks a little dark, but that could easily just be the photo - at least you'll know what to modify should you find that you need to in the future. Good luck for the show!

Many thanks, Dubya! I'm really glad the article and videos have helped. It's such an important and often overlooked aspect of layout design, especially so for exhibition layouts.
As to the aluminium strips, I had to resort to Amazon. A quick search for "LED aluminium profile" should bring up results, but let me know if you still can't find any and I'll see if the ones I bought are still available on there.

All the best,
Jamie

Cheers mate,

I've just ordered some boards from Tim Horn and want to get everything right before sticking stuff down and playing trains.

Thanks,

Dubya

Edit:

Ordered a complete kit and all the other bits from these geezers down the road from me in Bristol, if it doesn't do the trick I'll shove it under the kitchen cupboards (which I've been meaning to sort out for the last 18 months).
