I think you will find that the said gentleman was the UK Flesichmann Agent after the demise of M & R Model Railways. Fleischmann then sold direct to the retailers until the agency was given tio GM. There was a demo some years ago at Warley on one of the DCC system specialist's stand. Roco produced a set of 3 - DCC operated with sound syncronised with the doors. You could select which side the doors opened & on closing they would close out of sync with each other. You could also select the "guards" door which would close after the others & the whistle. Not too certain but I think you could buy an extra coach. Very expensive though.

The problem they encountered was that if the buyer decided to run the unit/s as a semi fast or non stop service was that the doors would open everytime the train ran through a station and as a result the project was cancelled. Surely thats an urban myth. The mail coach always opens everytime you run past, mail bag or not… so this is nothing new, and well known… that mail coach its at least 50 years old by now… I doubt it was a “discovery” for the EMU, it would have already been known, as i’d assume it would use the same spring ramp mechanism.
