During a well planned shopping trip .. "Just 5 minutes dear, 45 minutes later I return to the car"

Diss
02/10/2021 (Saturday)
37059 and 37425, Sir Robert McAlpine/Concrete Bob, on 3S01, 09:18, Stowmarket D.G.L. - Stowmarket D.G.L. (18:40) - RHTT

On Saturdays the Southern (from Stowmarket) RHTT runs via Bury St Edmunds and Ely to Norwich and then back again via the same route, 3S01 also still runs via Ely and Bury to Stowmarket, so there are 2 RHTTs around on Saturday afternoon, they should pass around Eccles Road but I've only managed this once in all the years I've been after them - however, in any case it still means 4 x different 37s in a short time through Eccles and 3S60 returns so a second bite of the cherry on that run too.

3S01 again, 37425 has the bonus "station ephemera" detailing pack added hence the extended wing mirror

3S60 made it's first appearance, unfortunately it was running late so the 4 x 37 pass shot was out - the weather was grim by this time as well.

37422, Victorious, and 37069 on 3S60, 08:37, Stowmarket D.G.L. - Stowmarket D.G.L. (20:02) - RHTT

I skipped a couple of days of repeats, in the meantime 37423 was having traction motor problems and was replaced by 37407 (423 was dragged off to Crewe), 407 was paired with 424 so forming a nice large logo pair.

From reports on another forum, which I would imagine you may seen but for the benefit of others who may not, DRS appear to be having trouble with their pair of York based 37s too - 37401 & 37402.

The West Yorkshire/South Yorkshire circuit is DRS 66s so far this year, but I haven't lost hope of 37s later in the season or even a pair of 'hire in' 20s again like last year.

It's not just 37's that are having problems.

After less than a week, 66432 has been dropped from 3J11.

Stand-in 37716 made a decent noise as it passed my house.

Excuse the dodgy video.

There is every possibility that a swap could happen later in the diagram tonight as it returns to Kingmoor mid-circuit.

Mixed loco types never seem to last long on RHTT jobs.

37422 has also succumbed meaning the Stow contingent is seriouly depleted and full running is due to start in just over a week (some circuits are stll not running yet) - we are now 4 locos short.

Be interesting to see how this develops over the next few weeks.  I don't imagine that there are an awful lot of readily available spare locos for spot hire, before factoring in traction knowledge on anything brought in to cover the duties.

The 37 hasn't managed to make it through to today's trip. Replaced with 88005!

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H16840/2021-10-08/detailed

Is this a first for a RHTT duty?

(A couple have hauled RHTT stock before, but not spraying in anger)

66302 is leading southbound at the moment.

It passes my house in the dark twice, but the plan is to see it pass elsewhere tomorrow morning and as long as the 88 doesn't get ripped mid diagram, it should be leading uphill.

We are getting 57003 and 37218, to bolster our fleet, sometime over the next few days.

88005 leads 66302 on the final leg of the Carlisle Kingmoor 3J11 duty that covers most of the North west.

Nearly got bowled by the 158 disappearing in the distance.20211009_3J11.jpg.585a82ef939e7a56190e3a0c2780dce3.jpg

Nearly managed a repeat shot of last week's through Rotherham today, but it got as far as Barnsley on the southbound run to Sheffield then turned round and went back to York. Lesson: these trains are subject to short-notice changes.

Try again next week I think.
