Making the most of on board power sockets to light up your journey

Someone on the GWR service between Swindon and Kemble certainly took the challenge up of using the sockets on the train. (Sorry rubbish news provider who loves adverts and pop ups)

I wonder if anyone has done any soldering on a journey not the the ride quality of modern trains would have enable good results 

In more innocent times, my wife re-soldered a plug on a colleague's head-phones on a flight between Madrid and Managua......
