Now you mention it, despite my six having boringly non-distracting conventionally coloured wheels, I had not noticed that before.  They are currently in the queue for livery corrections and weathering, whether I would have noticed it then, who knows.  One more thing to fix ....  well, 12 things I suppose.

Why would they need spring stops? 

They had lift-out panels (with cut-outs for a forklift to hook into them) not drop sides.

I think that we are discussing the little square brackets situated on the solebars, above the centre of the springs.
