Trust me , I’d have used it if it was available. What I can’t s understand , still, is how a covid protection mask has suddenly seeped into the consciousness so much that now to not wear one is “ disrespectful “, A group think gone mad. Like I said you’ll never stop wearing them now . Edited November 8, 2021 by rob D2
PenrithBeacon
I think respect is something of a double edged sword. Quite how to resolve the issues surrounding mask wearing is very much beyond me and the issue of mask wearing itself is becoming very authoritarian. It's protagonists, at least on here, seem to be moving away from respecting any other point of view. I won't be wearing a mask at Tolworth this weekend. I won't be doing so because if I wear one my glasses immediately fog up and I can't see a damned thing. Because of this there is no point at all in going if I have to wear a mask, no point at all. I'd be grateful if the organisers of the show could come on here and say whether they want, or perhaps insist, on visitors to their show wearing a mask, then I can make a decision as can others.
jonhall
The organisers don't read this forum, but I will offer an answer as an ordinary member... The venues policy is here https://www.placesleisure.org/coronavirus/reopening-faqs/ The stewards notes I was sent during the week do not mention policing any requirement for masks, so if policing is happening it won't be by club members, We will have all the fire exits open, and have a steward standing at them to provide security. It's also clear that the site's owners are making mask wearing optional, not compulsory. If I attend I will not be wearing a mask.
jonhall
I had a close relationship with the club, but resigned membership of the committee when work moved away and I followed. I'm fundamentally against holding the show for economic reasons, it being a huge financial gamble that I don't think we need to take... having said that, I still want to minimise their loss, by getting people to come. I will be wearing a mask for the majority of the time I'm at TRC, I know hands, face, space and fresh air work, and in an environment like an exhibition, where by the nature of the thing, space and fresh air are going to be compromised, then hands and face are going to have to do more of the heavy lifting. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted November 8, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 8, 2021 Evening all As you may have read on the Tidworth layout thread the extension is completed and we're raring to go for the first Ex in two years, come and say hello to me and the gang on stand E35. The thumper sits in the platform on the original part of the layout. And seen here approaching the station on the new extension.

wainwright1
I do not think I have seen it mentioned, but does anyone know if the café in the centre is actually open this year for the exhibition ? I seem to recall that it was closed two years ago as the staff did not want to work at the weekend. All the best Ray
TEAMYAKIMA
Well, the layout has been dismantled and the stock boxed up and so, we're (nearly) ready to go to Tolworth. Our dedicated team of Chinese railway workers are primed and ready to run trains for your enjoyment......... If anyone is planning to make a YOUTUBE video at the show, please make yourself known and we can set up scenes for you or run specific trains - we would love a YOUTUBE video to showcase the new version of the layout.
George Spencer
Given that this Sunday is Remembrance Sunday, is there a church close by?
jonhall
I'm not sure, but as always the layouts will stop, and everything fall silent at 11am on Sunday at the show. I do know there is a service at the war memorial at Surbiton (hence the diversion of our bus link to Surbiton station on Sunday Morning) and details are on the Kingston Council website https://www.kingston.gov.uk/news/article/217/join-us-as-we-pay-our-respects-this-remembrance-sunday-2021 'Surbiton, 10:45 - The Service will take place at the War Memorial on the Ewell Road at 10.45am and finish at approximately 11.30am. The Parade will march from the Surbiton British Legion, Hollyfield Road onto the Ewell Road, up to the War Memorial for the Service itself and then afterwards return back down the Ewell Road.' The Chessington service mentioned on the same website is also not far away. Jon 1
Invicta Informant
I visited this morning and the show is still up to its very good standards, with some quality layouts on display (St. George's Dock pictured). Thank you to the Hampton Court MRS for putting on this exhibition. The cafe just down the road has changed hands and its name from my last visit in 2019, but importantly breakfast there is still good and it sets you up for the day.
RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted November 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 14, 2021 I visited the show yesterday afternoon too and spent a pleasant 2 hours as we try to return to some sort of normality. Some great layouts and a good mix of scales, eras and trade support. My favourite was Tidworth as that’s my era and interest but I also enjoyed the scenery on Outwell Village Thanks to the organisers for taking the decision to proceed with the show - I did ask if I could pop back today to the show just to buy some stock boxes from JB’s Model World (as I needed to check back at home what I needed) but was told I would have to pay full price again (would have thought a steward could have escorted me to the stall whilst I made the purchase and then out again) but on that basis it’s cheaper to do it by mail order. On a positive note maybe two day exhibition shows could consider having a ticket which was say 1+1/2 times the full day price? Not a grumble just a suggestion. A few iPhone pics from me… 6
ColinW
Went yesterday. Some excellent layouts on display, and the show appeared to be well supported by the public. Colin 1
wainwright1
Four of our club members attended yesterday. Started with a good breakfast around the corner. Very good show with some excellent layouts. Also picked up a book I had been looking for, for some time and at half price. All in all a good day out. Couple of years ago I made a similar suggestion at my local mrc exhibition and was told that they had thought about it but decided it was a no go as such tickets would be passed to somebody else to avoid them paying for a fully priced ticket. Invicta Informant
One thing I forgot to say was that the gangways/aisles in the main sports hall (Edinburgh Hall) seem to me to be a bit wider this year (understandable considering what has been happening in the wider world since mid-March 2020). I have also noticed that SP Rail has uploaded some footage of the show on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47CJrrd06QI

deltic17
I thought Grindley Brook (large O gauge) was superb. Regular train running to keep the audience entertained - an excellent watch - I must have spent 30 minutes watching all the trains go by on a full sequence.
