West Derby part of town

Not to far away then, I’m just on the borders in Maghull, here’s a link to my N gauge effort that I’ll hopefully get done along side this one mate.

Over the last few days I’ve been grabbing the odd hours hour here and there to carry on with the weathering of the 40, I’ve also lowered it which I do feel makes a huge difference although I will need to redo the lifting brackets and make them a bit smaller.  Only the buffer beams to weather now then I’ll add sound and remove the maskol.

In other news yesterday I said goodbye to my 7mm version of Edge Hill I felt sad but I do feel happier since I made the decision to down scale.  One of the things that made that decision a bit easier was the fact you can buy AC locos in 4mm so these two beasts will soon be gracing 8N

No modelling over the weekend as we were away in the lakes but did get home just in time to catch the postman with this and I have to say I’m very very impressed with it, hopefully I’ll get the sound decoders for the 40 and this later this week.

Well that was easy and far quicker than fitting a sound decoder to anything in 7mm (other than an 08) E3104 is now alive!  I’ve blanked off one of the tail lights each end as was prototypical in the 60’s although I need to dim them a bit like I have the headcodes which i still might change.  A rather rushed and crude video but I'll do a better one tomorrow hopefully, excuse the track to it's a makeshift superglue scratch up using O gauge rail

Finally a bit a modelling!  Still waiting in the track from C&L :scratchhead: so can’t really do

much on the layout although tomorrow I’m nipping over to Hattons to get a few bits and I’m going to pick up a few lengths of flexi just so I can work out a few curves etc on the raised goods line, once that’s done I can just the wood for that.  But tonight I’ve added the detailing to the AL5 and added the maskol so it’s all ready for weathering this week.

A bit of modelling time so I’ve been trying to work out the curves leaving the viaduct to the embankment where a line will drop down into the depot, the curves in real life were pretty tight so I think this looks ok up to now

Picked up some Legacy flexi from Hattons today, basically because it’s fine scale and only £3 a metre, but it’ll give me a chance to get a feel of how things will look whilst I wait for my C&L order to be delivered.  Hopefully I’ll get curve off the viaduct cut in the next day or two.

Still waiting on the track to arrive so no real progress although due to some family issues modelling time hasn’t really happened.  I did however do a bit more to the 85, I just need to add a few bits of oil an grease, weather the buffers then tidy a few areas up and then it’ll be all finished apart from the sound chip

I normally use weathering powders to weather my locos but I have been using paints with my AC locos, yesterday I lightly weathered my 86 but still wanted to keep the new straight off the production line look

Although I’m still waiting on b/h rail I’ve made a start on the first two points, I normally stain the timbers with Jacobean dark oak but it wasn’t playing ball tonight so I’ve just gave them the first coats of weathered black as it’ll all be weathered in the end anyway.

B/H flexi arrived from Phil at C&L yesterday so I can hopefully start getting the track down over the next week time permitting, I also lightly weathered D1733 so that just needs a couple of subtle touches then that’s all finished.  I picked up some timber today so I can also get the flyover and embankment fitted to the main board soon hopefully.  Also a new addition is making it’s way across the Pennines to it’s new home and will hopefully arrive soon.

So having posted the pics last night I realised the sleeper spacing wasn’t quite correct, so I started again from an old template I had and so far I feel much happier with it, I don’t think anyone would of really noticed but would of know!

Finished the first turnout tonight, just need to add droppers and solder some copper clad for the tie bars, I’ve also made a start on the second turnout which will serve the exit of the two fuelling/servicing roads, so far so good.

Another quite productive day, I’ve laid the track in the siding and most of the run around loop with both boards now connected with the track laid.  I’ve also finished the 40 bar weathering the tanks and replacing the glass in both headcodes as they’ve gone a bit wrong

Today I managed to finish the second turnout and got it fixed into position on the board.  When I next get time to have both boards set up I can carry on laying the flexi down although I will need to buy the inspection pits before I can complete the two fuelling roads.  I also want to make a start on the raised viaduct and get that fixed into position sooner rather than later and get both the up and down goods lines complete.

As both points are now fitted into position the next point will be the exit road from the depot which connects to the down circular goods line.  Earlier today I cut the wood to make a start on the raised goods lines
