RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 12, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 12, 2022 Again for those who never seen my original ELJ in OO and then EM here’s some pics, it also proves I do sometimes get past just the track laying stage 😂 11
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 13, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2022 Not much to report over the weekend other than, timbers, sleepers and chairs have been ordered from the EM gauge society so once they arrive I can crack on with a few things and tonight I lay a few tracks out to see what size the real Edge Hill will take up. I’ve got 8’x2’ to play with and it fits in with room to spare, I could make it narrower but if keep it at 2’ I can fit in two stabling roads that used to be part of the main shed. The real Edge Hill diesel servicing shed Track roughly laid out tonight The two lines along side the fuel storage road are the two in the pic below (not mine) where the disc headcode 40 is and the cl25
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 17, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2022 I’ve survived four early’s (getting up at 0400 does not agree with me!!) so I’ve literally been getting home tea, shower and bed so no modelling whatsoever, I have been thinking of a few ideas though and I’ll be working on the shed building over the next couple of days hopefully. Bits n’ bobs from EM gauge society have arrived to in the form of chairs, rail and sleepers etc so I’ll be cracking on with the junction for Edge Lane. Not sure where to post progress on that as my original thread is still in the 7mm section although I have asked for it to be moved so I’ll wait and see what happens before I decide whether to start a new one.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 25, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2022 On the depot side of things I have made a start on the shed but not posting any photos until it’s worth showing, for those of you interested in track building I have been laying timbers for Edge Lane Junction, here’s a link to the latest updates for anyone who’s not seen it
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 28, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2022 A good couple of hours modelling today, track building is getting underway on ELJ but I’ve spent an hour planning the depot, completely different approach but it gives me an 8’ max layout to play trains on! Can anyone guess which location has inspired me? 🤔
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted December 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2022 Morning folks, I’ve kind of been engrossed in track building on ELJ which is coming along nicely but I haven’t forgotten about this project although things have altered as regards of what I’m going to build. I’m not divulging anything at the moment but I do have a track plan more or less finalised, it will be a maximum of 8’ long but the width is still undecided. It will also be able to operate as a stand alone layout to play with easily but I’m building it in such a way it can be incorporated into my other project if you get me 😉 I will post the plans soon and please take a look at how ELJ is coming along, I’ll post some photos below. I hope everyone has a merry and wonderful Christmas and happy new year to follow. Paul
RMweb Gold 97406 Posted December 21, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2022 I do admire handbuilt track and turnouts. I may have missed you saying (I’m rubbish at scrolling back through threads), but is it OO built to finescale standards? I got some lovely bullhead track for my extension, but the correct sleeper spacing on it clashed with the points and the rest of the track, so I opted for the incorrect HO spaced streamline. As it will be ballasted and viewed from above, the eye is deceived, but track with the proper propiotions is nicer.

Thanks mate it was originally going to be fine scale standards but it’s more or less oo gauge for ease. On the depot I’ve used C&L flexi but on ELJ all the track is hand built using ply sleepers. It well worth giving it a go as it’s really enjoyable and works out far cheaper in the long run. Thanks again Paul
