I have these two in my stash. The couplings will have to go and they'll get 2FS wheels and probably sound. I look forward to further developments at 8N. David Thank you David, I’ll be ordering Biffo sound for my one soon, love the green split box one you have, I had one just before I jumped up to O gauge but I defo need to get another one, hopefully someone will release some newer retooled 40’s again soon. RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted October 17, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2021 A bit of late evening modelling, both boards are now finished so I can have a play around with the track plan tomorrow. Here’s a rather crude sketch of the track plan, I’m going for the ‘what if’ version I think as it’s got more operational interest I think, I’m also going to move the stores/office block to the other side where in real life there was a lot more room and was also closer to the fuel storage siding which also re-supplied the depot stores. Although I’ll get away with just 8’ not including fiddle yard in the future I’ll be adding a third board this will give the head shunt to enter the fuelling shed and also allow for some of the imaginary ac loco stabling point to be modelled. As for the fiddle yard I think I’m going to use the board I started building my O gauge Lime Street diorama on, I was going to sell it but it could be easier just cleaning the top off and using that.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted October 18, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2021 Had a bit of time to myself today so can the boards together just to see roughly how it will look, I haven’t got any OO gauge track yet so I cobbled together a metre of improvised track using 7mm code 124 glued to a piece of board and away the 47 went I’ve also made a start on the lifting brackets for the class 40 and the bogie to body steam pipes, just need to make the swivel plates now.

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted October 20, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2021 I seem to of got more done over the last couple of days than I have in the last couple of months, wheels and bogies are all weathered so just the tanks snd buffer beams to do then the chassis is complete, I might try an make a start on the body later if I get chance. Still waiting on the flexi so no real progress on the layout but a friend is dropping his laptop off tomorrow (mine died) so I can draw it and print it out on Templot, I should be able to make a start on the points then.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted October 22, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 22, 2021 Made a start on the track plan on Templot last night and printed a few bits off earlier, hopefully I’ll get my final plan down on the boards soon and I can start on cutting some ply for the viaduct and the line on the embankment and incline from the depot 2

RMweb Gold 97406 Posted October 25, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2021 It's worth looking into lowering the Bachmann 40s a touch. Mine are lowered by about 0.8mm and it's easy to do by removing the plastic piece at the top of the bogie towers and sanding it down by about 0.8mm (measured with verniers). I still have to add the lifting points on mine, and I really should put smaller orange jumper plug/sockets on as well.

Evening mate, I’ve lowered the older Bachmann 40’s in the past, pretty straightforward once you’ve got past the fear of the first time, I thought the new tooled one didn’t look to bad to be honest but I might have a play around with it. cheers

My early Bachmann 40s ended up with Lima central body sections and didn’t need lowering. I’m also looking to lower my 37s, though I think it’s the bogie sideframes that are slightly too low, judging by the buffer height. Look forward to how your layout develops. Thanks buddy, I’ll definitely take a look at it as yours looks very very good, I’d lowered my old 37’s in the past to snd they looked far better, but I’ll be waiting for the Accurascale 37’s rather than Bachmann this time around. Here’s my old 37 an 40 I lowered

Here’s my old 37 an 40 I lowered Lovely stuff, gives them a much better stance on the track. I think the extra height is manufactured into them to allow the wheels to clear the body on tight curves, but the lowered examples work fine on the smallest radius Peco streamline points, which I think are 2 foot radius. Had some fun with the chassis details (lifting points and the like) on the early Bachmann 40s, but a block a thick plasticard on the end of the water tanks restricted the bogie swing to stop them from being knocked off.

JBM37404
@PjKing1Can understand the move to 4mm, I am dropping from O to N (Code 40 mind) in order to fit full length trains, will keep an eye on your work as its always a great standard of modelling. Out of interest how long do Tim Horn boards usually take to be delivered after ordering. We are building a Garden room which should be done around Xmas but I dont want the boards until its done but am keen to start the layout once I have the room built? Thanks John
