Roger.s
Does anyone know if the LT&SR 4 wheel coaches were repainted in Midland Rly or LMS livery and if so when this was done. I am particularly interested in the 4 wheel stock which worked onto the District Railway and was hauled by the District electric locos. Roger

Roger My understanding is that most LT&SR carriages remained in teak. There were, I'm told (with apologies to the teller, as I've forgotten who it was) that there were several reasons for this, not the least of which was that teak doesn't take paint well. Also, teak was particularly resistant to the effect of smoke. Finally, the majority of the stock was maintained at Plaistow, where, one supposes, there weren't the facilities for repainting.
