You know it's 3.5mm scale, right? If I remember, RM printed the drawing at the wrong scale and the Backwoods bloke followed it when designing the kit! 

 

Anyone know if this part of the former Backwoods empire has found a new home? I've read that some locos have but haven't seen anything about this kit.

No idea if anyone has taken over that particular kit (some of the 009 kits have passed to 'N Drive Productions') but an unbuilt example sold on Ebay earlier today;

Yes, I saw the eBay item but pulled out when price was going crazy. Thanks for the info re the wrong scale - so guess it would look a little strange with the wheels set a 4mm?

Perhaps an opportunity for one of the suppliers wh go for 'strange' or industrials

Errrr - no!

 

16.5 mm. gauge at 3.5 mm. scale equals 4'-8.5" (ie. correct gauge).

 

16.5 mm. gauge at 4.0 mm. scale equals 4'-1.5" (ie. incorrect gauge).

 

What would look odd is a 3.5 mm. scale crane loco pulling 4 mm. scale wagons.

I recently got rid off mine as it was never going to get built. 
 

Getting the correct wheels is troublesome 

As the the kit was design for Sherman wheels. 
 

though they are lovely little engines

I saw these working at Doxfords during 1969/70 whilst at college in Sunderland.

I'm surprised no other manufacturer of kits has done one of these. A very popular choice & a very interesting loco. I sold my kit of this loco because of the size difference.

I built mine regardless, and it's a nice kit to make up but I wouldn't pay £415 for one !

Looks very nicely built. But the scale is obviously wrong - compare buffer heights here:
