The diesel TTS I have will run/sound quite happily without a motor in circuit. If so that would tend to suggest that the circuit to the motor isn’t working. With an 8-pin socket that may be as simple as the plug not seated into it properly and making the connection and re-fitting might solve it. If you are able/willing to take the body off of course.
