Oh, I bought one this morning. Fell into the trolley by accident as I walked past. Had a play with it after lunch.

The 0.5 bits are ok, not as good as a full spec hss one but they do drill plastic easily. The rest look ok.

Machine vice looks useful. Those soft  jaws hold tube nicely. I also like the small red roller bits that screw onto it for larger round sections.

The drill holder has sprung jaws and is surprisingly concentric, a lot of base pin chucks aren't.

8 quid, nae bad.

Dammit , forgot the milk.............

Don't think it will matter much as they are probably made of cheese

How do you know? Or just another of your assumptions?

I have bought plenty of Lidl/Aldi tools that are as good as known brands plus I've had experience of Aldi buyers and how they assess suppliers.

I said probably & that was based on passed experience of them.

As it happens I have a lot of tools & equipment from Lidl, Aldi & the late Nettos stores & they are generally excellent, well up to DIY & light professional.

However, the drill bits are not, actually some appear to be made of glass.

The flat bits are not better - I gave the flat bits from Aldi another try at the end of the summer & they quite simply wear their way through.

Some time ago I bought a set of stepped sheet metal hole cutters - they have outlasted the last set I bought from RS.

Re-cip saw - bought for one job & performed better than the De-Walt one a mate had.

Ripsaw - blade soon had to be replaced, but apart from that a great powerful & inexpensive tool.

Pressure Washer - good as a Kacher.

All of these from the above stores, but I stand by my comment about the quality of the drill bits which is based on experience & made with a little bit of humour that fell on stoney ground.

In a nutshell I'm more than happy with the tools & equipment that I've bought from the above stores except for the drill & flat bits.

Cheap drill bits (and saw and knife blades) do tend to be c**p. OK for plastic (maybe), but any metal in which one might want to make holes is harder than the bit.

I'll have to look out for that here in Italy.... (Here Lidl stuff  comes labelled in Spanish and Italian.)

My experience with drill bits is that you get what you pay for when it comes to small diameter bits and that it is worth investing in a good set for modelling work. My latest is a set of shanked bits from RS Components, which are much easier to use when it comes to power tools. These have been good for drilling holes in brass and nickel silver for making signals.

The vice and clamping pieces make this LIDL set look interesting.

Yours,  Mike.

Just picked up the hand drill set from my local Lidl. The vice with its softjaw attachments and the pin drill are well worth having at the price alone. The drills are a curates egg bonus. The larger ones are probably ok, the bits of wire ones less so, I thought I'd lost mine when they all fell out of the holder when I opened it...

The rotary tool accessory selections also look useful. Its nice that they're sold in functional packs rather than a compendium stuffed with ones you don't need!

Just taken me 20 mins to work out how to open the drill boxes. Easy when you know how.

Opening wasn't a problem, I didn't realise that the really tiny bits were there...  Teach me to wear my glasses!

The thing that I find particularly interesting is that Lidl ( and maybe other supermarkets ) now consider that it is worth stocking many items for people that enjoy a wide range of craftwork hobbies. Many of these items would previously have only been available from more specialist shops.

It may be that as a result of the changes of the last two years many more people are taking up craftwork compounded with so many small specialist shops being forced off the high street supermarkets will start to stock a greater range of these products. WH Smith tried it with modelzone, but perhaps the time wasn't just right.

Either way I welcome the development, to my mind folk taking up any sort of constructive hobby is a good thing.

I would suggest that they've been doing this for far longer than the last couple of years.

I got the mini drill and some multi tool cutting discs using my Lidl plus app voucher as there was a day left on it before it expired

If you don’t have it basically it’s a phone app and if you shop a lot in Lidl, as we do for the family big shop, when you spend £200 in a month over your shops you get a £10 voucher, or £2 if you spend £100 to use within that calendar month, it’s also useful as you get digital receipts, which is useful when whatever you buy will inevitably break down!

handy for the big shop or to go (semi) mad in the middle isle on tat

You get both; the first £100 spend triggers the £2.00 voucher, the second £100 (within each calendar month) triggers the £10.00. So £12.00 off each month, or £144.00 off in a year, nearly a month's shopping for free. ;)

The only Parkside tool that hasn't lasted for me was the 20v cordless circular saw, I have burnt out two of them with just occasional DIY use. Gave up last month when the second one went (out of warranty, of course) and got myself a DeWalt 18v one to match the DeWalt tools I use professionally.

Special trip to Lidl this morning , just to get one of these. came away with a second for JZjr, the helping hands, some smoked salmon, various salamis, some biltong and jerky, 6 cans of various craft beers, raclette and some rye bread.

The rotary tools were available a few years back and still have them. Drills appear to be of reasonable quality.
