RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted September 6, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2015 what have you done to get ExaggeratingWanderer to apologise? I diverted the thread to involve interesting aluminium cement wagons instead of those rust and woodrot things Paul specialises in. Civil if nothing else, (depending on which thread you read) Mike. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 7, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2015 Well, a good weekend at Darlington, let's hope it happens again next year and if you were there spread the word! 80118 with a service to Whitby waits for the signal at Greyscroft. J72 68960 makes a welcome return to mine pilot duties after an absence of 3 or 4 shows. The recent regular mine pilot J77 68409 has escaped onto the main line, deputising for a failed Ivatt class 2. Q6 63340 heads through Greyscroft at speed with empty ironstone hoppers. J26 65763 heads through Greyscroft with steel carriers loaded with special profiles from Skinningrove works to Newport yard. Yes, I got into trouble on Sunday morning when Nicola saw that the curtain hadn't been ironed.

Porcy Mane
Someone said they would give me the sizes and photos of said brake cylinders.... Just to make it clear, that wasn't me. I got a "telling off" about this on Sunday. Tongue was firmly in cheek though. P
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted February 22, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2016 Over a year ago I started to mark out the scenics on board 1A together with preliminary fitting of the level crossing. Tonight I've started with the base scenics, good old expanded polystyrene is being used, I was planning to use extruded (Kingspan, Celutex etc) but it seems to make more mess, is difficult to cut and stinks when being cut. The plan is to complete this for ExpoEM North in September but will get disrupted a bit when I start on the boards for 'The Depots' sometime this spring. General view, Mine to the left, fiddleyard to the right. With the farm buildings in position, the block on the right will be cut down a lot, the polystyrene slabs are 1 1/2" thick. The field on the other side of the railway has ridges and furrows.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted February 24, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2016 Managed an hour on the snowy hills earlier tonight, joined the board to board 1 (mine) after removing it's backscene and most of the trees, it looks like the ground levels won't need much adjusting for them to blend in. Ground removed where the mine yard and entrance will be, the position of the level crossing can be seen on the track. The hill behind the farm has been trimmed, I've found the best tool for cutting the polystyrene is a steak knife.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted February 25, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2016 I started tonight by placing a few bits on the board to help get a feel of how it was taking shape, some telegraph poles, fencing and the level crossing. The small grey rectangle represents the gate box. Then more messy stuff could happen.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted February 28, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2016 Made some progress yesterday with some more papering and made a start on the crossing box, based on Honeypot Lane crossing in Darlington brick counting for height came up with odd measurements so zooming in on the photo until the palings on the wicket gate on the left were 45mm (4' 6") and I could scale from that. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 1, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 1, 2016 Got cills and lintels fitted last night, made the roof and started painting, looks a bit garish at the moment but it will be toned down.

RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2016 Hi Paul, I've only just noticed the second upcast(?) Shaft. Is that based on Park pit or stanghow? It's very impressive
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 2, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2016 Hi Paul, I've only just noticed the second upcast(?) Shaft. Is that based on Park pit or stanghow? It's very impressive Yes, Park pit, had some good views of it from across the valley when my dad was working in Upleatham. I believe the site is currently being tidied up. RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2016 Excellent, one of my biggest regrets is that I didn't take any photographs of it when my friend lived there in the 70s and 80s. It was in such good condition then. I believe we the first people since the 30s to view the inside of the upcast shaft after some concrete flooring gave way allowing access to the fan vases. I still have good memories of the time if you ever want any information Keep up the good work Russ
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 7, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2016 Now that looks better... Also got a bit of plaster on and smoothed down tonight.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 10, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2016 Good progress tonight, most of the ground - at least what can be done - has been plastered. paving and walls around the midden in the farm yard were added on tuesday night and plastered wednesday night. The backscene needs to be fitted soon (far side and right hand side in photo below) and then the plaster filling in up to it. The ridge and furrow field at the front of the board has turned out rather well, I just hope the effect survives grass being added. The level crossing has been temporarily plonked on along with the crossing box and I will mark out the final position of the road and fences, the signal position has been finalised and it's fixing hole drilled. And finally tonight, a pretty shot of a class A with a Motor & Carriage Van and six wheel carriages.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2016 Good progress over the weekend, backscenes made, painted and fitted, lots of brown paint sloshed about, the last of the landscaping done and the front fascias cut out and fitted, these have since had their first coat of stain. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 17, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2016 Starting to get on to more fiddly bits now, tonight I've made a start on installing the level crossing, the gates will go on much later as they're a bit delicate and they still need a lot of work. The deck is Wills planking and the road either side has been made up with filler, I have made a 'slot' for the crossing box from plasticard and filled in either side. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted March 18, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2016 The first job tonight was to rub down and paint the filler that was put on last night, after this I covered the cutting sides and front field with grass (carpet underlay) and then attention turned to the farm buildings, I've painted the stonework and the doors, which have been fitted followed by fitting the roofs, the cart house roof is corrugated iron just to make a change. I'm planning on having a clump of trees in the corner, these are the ones removed from around the mine yard.
