Only just found this (whilst nosing at the members day thread) and can't believe I have missed it - so much for reading peeps signatures :D

 

Looks fab and I have now book marked it to read it through from the beginning :yes:

It was very good to meet Paul and Greyscroft Mine yesterday. Here are a couple of photos I took at the Members Day. I've tinkered with them slightly by cropping and making Black and White.

I was tremendously impressed with Greyscroft Mine as a whole as I'd only seen the taster snaps moving through the project. Really clever use of baseboard shape, straight mainlines on a diagonal which leads the brain to think there's more curves that there are. Wonderful stuff!

My thoughts exactly Andy. The fact the layout is not parallel to the baseboard makes it a far more interesting to the observer. :)

It was also great to see another layout that does weather the road vehicles, something which seems to be forgotten on many layouts.

really like your model based on the Huntcliff Fanhouse, excellent. I'm sure they would be glad of your skills at the Cleveland Mining Museum if you are not already helping.

Greyscroft Mine will be at the Cleveland MRC exhibition this weekend so come along and say hello.

 

Thanks to Bachmann it's easy to get one of Whitby's finest - 80118 - which started it's career with us. I've just re-wheeled it to EM with a Gibson conversion set (3mm axles), photos earlier in the thread show it on the layout but this was with the Bachmann wheels moved out, unfortunately these wheels are too thick and when set to gauge the rods were fouling the crossheads and slide bars. It will also get only a light weathering as it was quite new.

That's better, wheels painted and a bit of weathering, it still needs the brake shoes re attaching as these were fouling the wheels but this will wait till a later date. What I will do now is add a bit of coal, luckily the coal moulded in the bunker is suitably low to be able to add some easily.

Had a great weekend at Redcar, the layout ran well with only minor problems that were sorted easily, a couple of pick ups on the J26 weren't 'picking up' and after a bit of tweaking 80118 ran ok, the first problem was the gauge was too wide (don't know how that happened) and then moving it in affected the quartering but a few minutes on sunday morning and a bit of lubrication, it ran the passenger service for most of the day.

I've had a few invites so hopefully you will be able to see us at more shows large and small in the next couple of years.

 

J26 65763 with shunts the yard after being replaced on the ironstone train by the Ivatt 4MT following pickup trouble.

G5 67240 with a passenger train for Whitby has a van of pigeons to be released further south.

The line that the ironstone trains would have taken to Middlesbrough was about 50 yards behind us just outside the show venue, we never saw one J26 or Q6 though... :scratch_one-s_head_mini:

Hi Ray, welcome to RMweb,

 

I used a Gibson conversion set (RTR use 3mm axles rather than 1/8") and short lengths of plastic tube to space them out.

 

It's next outing will be at the Tyneside show in November.
